How much --- is that? I played football for 10 years never at the level these guys are at but honestly, never did that thought cross my mind to go that low nor did I ever remember someone on our team having that --- happen to them. I realize people bend fingers everything else under piles but the eye thing is pretty messed up. I have zero respect for Urban Meyer now and even more respect for Oregon because the way they handled their situation as opposed to this just puts it all into perspective. Will anyone that matters step in an tell them this is all ---? Will Spikes go in the first round now? (Assuming he probably would have before) I would actually even love to see legal charges if nothing else occured. I am by no means a Florida basher they are an absolutely amazing team and I loved watching them, but I just want to see them get stomped now.

He ought to be prosecuted for assault. Because it happens on a football field it ain't a crime?

So I would assume then that this unprovoked "attack" should also be prosecuted for assult?

Cant watch the video at work, but downplaying what Spikes did in order to make less of it isnt an excuse. Good try though

Tebow is just standing there after handing the ball off with his head turned towards the play and he gets clocked from the blind side. Now I would think that for a guy who already has had one concussion THAT could certainly be seen as a deliberate attempt to injur, thus why not a criminal charge also?
Let us also not forget that Spikes had his helmet ripped off twice and once his helmet was off another GA player hit him in hte head with his helmet trying to "block" him away from the play.
The SEC has already said they are satisfied with the punishment and MUCH more is being made of this because of the success Meyer has had.
I have seen the hysterical writer (yahoo sports) and the more balanced account (ESPN). The Yahoo (how appropriate is that) writer is a bit overdramatic to me. Part of hte reason players starting wearing face shields on their helmets is due to teh number of times fingers "end up" inside the facemask.
UNless you have watched the entire game and how "chippy" it was I could really care less what your opinion is when viewing ONE isolated play.

Columnist from the St. Petersburg Times was on 101.1 today saying what a crock a half a game is.
He correctly points out that suspending him for half a game is worse than taking no action, because it sends the message "We need to do something, but frankly we aren't concerned about this."
He then went on to say that had Spikes blinded the guy, Tebow could have healed him. Nice.

I love it when people want to ignore facts and just act on emotion.
The guy it happened to said no big deal, it was going on all day long on both sides.
But hey IGNORE the folks playing the game and call me a tool. Whatever.

It shouldn't matter that the other guy said it wasn't a big deal. I think a one game suspension would have been appropriate.

Eye gouging was not going on all day. Was it a bit chippy? Sure, but that doesn't excuse him for this. That is just low.
