Post subject: Have the Angels already changed the Holliday Sweepstakes?

With the Angels re-signing Bobby Abreu on the first day available, are they out of the Matt Holliday sweepstakes before they even begin? For a team rumored to be interested, they sure committed fast to their own player. It's been reported that Angels owner Arte Moreno doesn't like to deal with Boras if at all possible.
If Bay re-signs with Boston (why wouldn't he — good cash for a perennial contender) and the Yankees re-sign Damon, will there really be a large market for Holliday?
The Mets and San Francisco have played the Boras inflation game before (Beltran and Zito). Will they be pulled into a bidding war? Since the Cubs are looking to dump 2 large contracts (possibly Soriano and definitely Bradley) they logically can't get into this thing immediately.
So are the Cardinals now Holliday's only sure-fire potential for a big payday?
Remember, Boras has misread the market the past two years with players like A-Rod and Manny Ramirez. Every team that signs one of their own, like the Angels have already done is sending the sign that they aren't likely going to negotiate.
Feel free to flame, but I'm really wondering if Holliday is going to be with us by virtue of arbitration and we'll be going through this process again next year.

Holliday is definitely operating under Boras's orders. How long did it take him to file to become an ex Cardinal? I just hope we like the draft picks and the Mets need a player like Holliday.

How much did Abreu sign for? That sets a floor that Holliday will demand to be paid well in excess of.
Angles aren't setting the market for Holliday. All it takes is one other team.

I would take the Angels and Red Sox out of the mix for Holliday, but I've thought all along that the Mets will be the team that goes all in for him.

Vlad Guerrero is a FA right? If they don't resign him - the Angels would still have the need for an OF.

Two year, 19 mil. 9 million next year.
A little less than the 16 mil for six the Cards are said to be offering.

BoSox landed former Marlin Jeremy Hermidia last night as insurance incase they can't or don't want to sig Jason Bay or Matt Holliday.

I just saw that too, rockoandlouie.
Is this insurance or getting out of both bidding wars?
I'd love to see the Yanks re-sign Damon in the next couple of days. Maybe the owners are getting wise to the Boras negotiation tactics. But all it takes is one more to get a bidding war started.
Still, could Holliday and Bay now be truly available to the Cards?

Bob,
Vlad hasn't been an OF for a couple of years. He's now strictly a DH....

True. But they could let Vlad walk, sign Holliday & rotate the DH btwn several different guys.
I guess my point is - just because the Angels signed Abrue - doesn't mean they're "out" of the Holliday bidding.

Man-Roid sticks it to the Dodgers and exercises his $20M
option last night!
This takes the Dodgers out of the Bay/Holliday sweepstakes.
The early reports are the yanks will re-sign Johnny Damon and are now even considering bringing back Matsui!
With the BoSox landing Hermidia the field, in no particular order, for Holliday and Bay now appears to be:
Mets
Giants
Braves
Cardinals
Angels (if they let Vladdy go)
BoSox
Yankees
