I know Nady is not a power surge like Holliday but he might be that spark the Cards need.

He isn't the answer but can be part of the solution with upgrades at other places, He does kill LHP something the Cards have problems with.

If you mean an upgrade over Holliday, probably not.

Other than the major recovery concern from surgery, IMO, he is a solid performer.

If we don't sign Holliday, or trade Ludwick for help at another position, I would rather take a chance on Nady ( assuming he passes his physical ) than trade prospects for Dunn, or spend big bucks on Bay.

It all depends on his health. He is 31 as of November 14th, and I would expect that he will be much sought after.

Having played within the division can't hurt.

I like the idea of signing DeRo and Nady, and using any leftover cash to shore up pitching. There is an absolute glut of top tier relievers - check the FA list - and for what Holliday costs we could get a lights out staff. Several decent starters also. Next year more FA bats hit the market - they are scarce this year. Good pitching beats good hitting every time - except when Albert is at bat!

It Ludwick's Arbitration numbers come in too high I wouldn't mind seeing him shipped and possibly go with...

Adam Dunn 12M
Xavier Nady 6M in 2010 and 8M mutual option in 2011
Troy Glaus 8M

vs

Holliday 18+ or Bay 16+
Ludwick 6M range

Thats would be if the 2 FA's were willing to take those deals, If Nady opted out all 3 players could be Type-A FA in 2011 if healthy and still young enough to be in demand.

The system would be zapped outside a few guys but with the extra picks in 2010 and 2011 it could be back healthy quickly with high potential.

Its only 2-4M more that what would be given to Ludwick and Bay/Holliday and could be reduced some if Washington picked up part of Dunn's money for better prospects and It gives us the deeper lineup we need with 5 power threats 3 of which have had multiple 40 HR seasons!

Ludwick is probably going to be between $5-6M which isnt too high.

Dunn is a given at $12M, who would you trade for him?
Nady will probably be in that range, his 2009 salary was $6.55M. $4-5M plus incentives for ABs, max at $7M would work.
Glaus would also have to be an incentive deal, probably starting around $6M, max at say $9M.

Would make an interesting lineup.

Skip-4
Nady-9
AP-3
Dunn-7
Glaus-5
Rasmus-8
Molina-2
Ryan-6
Pitcher

I have no idea what they would want but not many guys would be off limits from the minors and they have some holes, you also have the X factor of what Ludwick was moved for.

Why are people always wanting to move Ludwick?

He's better than Nady and he's still relatively cheap.

I don't think he will match his 2008 numbers again, but I think it's resonable to expect his 2010 numbers to be somewhere between his 2008 & 2009 numbers.

I am not really interested in moving Luddy. I was just going off of the original idea. I would have no problem if they could trade for Dunn and resign Glaus and Luddy still in RF. Thats quite a bit of power from both sides of the plate. Dunn's splits are even with the exception of he hits for more power against righties.

I rarely disagree with you, my good man, so I'm probably wrong.

BUT,

Assuming Rasmus and Miller are not two of the prospects, I would rather trade for Dunn than get Nady. I think Dunn is a future HOFer. 600 HR and a .900 career OPS will look pretty good, especially if he can get on a team that makes it to the postseason and have a good postseason.

Now, if Rasmus or Miller is involved, I do not want Dunn, I do not think.

They wouldnt trade Colby for him and Miller is safe for this year as he was the 09 pick and cant be traded for a year. Not sure what the Nats would want, something like Lynn and Jones or Craig.
