Geez people, did anyone actually watch the game? The ABC announcer (Craig James I believe) nailed it on the head.
Charest was likely coming in in the 3rd quarter, but then the Hawthorne kid made the great hustle play, and the Illini D subsequently held Michigan out of the end zone.
Zook probably didn't want Charest's first action in the game to be with the ball on the half yard line. So Juice stayed in, and the team went 99 yards and scored a TD.
It's kind of hard to take a guy out after that, so Juice stayed in, and the Illini kept scoring. So Charest never got in.
My guess is Zook's thinking at that point was, "Let's just win a freaking game, I don't care how we do it or who does it."
I couldn't agree more. In fact, if anybody needs benched after the Michigan game it should be Duphrene (sp) at running back.
Let LeShoure start and get the bulk of the carries, with Ford coming in to back him up. No more 5 back rotation. Those two guys have proven they are capable of making plays.
There's five games left, if Juice plays poorly again, there will still be plenty of time to see Charest. I just want the Illini to move the ball and score and compete and win games. Whoever does that should be in, be they senior, freshman or whatever.
