So you want to nullify the Rams BEST player, Donnie Jones?

If you read TMQ on ESPN.com he's talked about this for years.

Its a great idea. Its a hell of a lot easier to get 10 yards when you only have to average 2.5 yards per play.

I would love to see the nfl designate the second Sunday of the season as puntless Sunday. No punts allowed. It would be interesting to see how the fans react. I think it would lead coaches to eventually go for it more often under the regular rules. They would discover all sorts of subtle calculations they had not realized until they were forced upon them.

For those of us who are nerdy enough to read through a 43 page study.

Does it explain how Iowa is somehow 9-0?

In most cases with a fourth and one, a team should never punt away the ball when on their own 40 or farther. Mike Leach is fun to watch because he realizes the odds are in his favor when he chooses not to punt, and he also does things like letting Texas score a TD late in the game last season just so he could get the ball back. The first team that scraps the prevent defense with more than a minute left in the game will have an advantage as well.

Sometimes we all have a way of making ourselves look silly.

The Romer study is one of the more interesting football studies out there.

I think we saw an example of this in the LSU/Bamer game. LSU had a fourth and a half yard around their 40. Instead of going for it they punt it away. Next play Julio Jones takes it to the house, game over.

A complete 180% momentum swing.
