Thoughtful response. I was thinking more along the lines of TORT reform and allowing Insurance Companies to compete accross state lines. You may have heard of it. It's called competition.

That was one of the single dumbest things I have heard from a Congressman. Grayson clearly is a supporter of groupthink. His argument of march in lock step with the leftist radicals or you are against reform is just plain idiotic.

Why do you fight the government offering competition to private carriers? Isn't that also competition? Tort reform is a minor player in Health care cost. It's real, just like a license plate frame is real. But, it really doesn't impact performance much. Defensive medicine is a smoke screen for fee for service revenue optimization.

Insurance companies price their products according to market will bear pricing.

It is not the government's job to be a competitor. They are not granted that authority in the Constitution. What do you think will happen when one competitor gets to make the rules over the competition? The competition won't be around very long.

Operating the ATC system and space exploration are not in the Constitution either, aong with SS, Medicare, Medicaid, National hiways, National weather service, etc.

I don't understand this position.

Alright, I've read that Pelosi is in favor of illegal aliens being covered by taxpayers for not only emergency expenses but for all their healthcare.

From what I understand the claim is that those who dont have insurance and go to the emergency room and don't pay drive up the cost of insurance for those who pay for their insurance because the government mandates that those in need of emergency treatment must receive it.

I agree that those in need of emergency treatment must receive it.

I'll admit that I am ignorant as to what role the government plays when those without insurance that receive emergency treatment and cannot pay for it is exactly.

I have friends who have been sued by hospitals because they don't have insurance and cannot pay.

Does the government pick up the tab in these instances?

Or does the government have some blame for mandating that those in need of emergency treatment are entitled to receive it; and responsibility to pay up?

I am in favor of hospitals being required to care for everyone who is in need of emergency treatment.

But if they can't pay for it, I just think it should be decided in the courts.

Those who can afford insurance but don't spend their money on it in favor of other things are irresponsible. They should live with the consequences and have their money taken from their paychecks by court order to pay their medical expenses.

I am in favor of expanding government provided health insurance for those who can't afford it.

But EVERYONE should shoulder a burden of responsibility and pay up. No free rides.

I am not in favor of requiring citizens to buy it, or business's to be mandated to provide it for their employees.

If we are going to eliminate denying coverage for those with pre-existing conditions; why can't that be offered at the hospital emergency room?

Anyone else have any suspicions about health insurance company lobbyist being in favor of and pushing for and influencing congressmen and women to push for this mandate?

No it isn't and that's because the only reason government health insurance will be more "affordable" than private health insurance is that taxpayers will be footing the bill!

Put the shoe on the other foot and think about it...

What if Aetna (for example) had the power to put people in jail for not purchasing their policies? Or for not paying the health care costs of strangers when they've run up astronomical bills because there are no PERSONAL RESTRAINTS on their Doctor visits?

If it horrifies you to imagine Aetna with that kind of power, why doesn't it horrify you for any human-run organization with the same kind of power?

In other words - why would you fear and loath Aetna BUT NOT fear and loath US Government Bureaucrats doing exactly the same things ONLY WITH VASTLY MORE POWER TO STICK IT TO YOU?

Make no mistake about it...

Quote

"This is not about insuring the uninsured. This is not about health care. This is about stealing one-sixth of the U.S. private sector and putting it under the control of the federal government. And when they get this health care bill, if they do, that's the easiest, fastest way for them to be able to regulate every aspect of human behavior, because it will all have some related cost to health care -- what you drive, what you eat, where you live, what you do. And there'll be penalties for violating regulations. It's going to be the biggest snatch of freedom and liberty that has yet occurred in this country." - Rush Limbaugh

Imagine someone like the forum's infamous "Beev" having the power to fine you for being too _____________ (fill in the blank).

I guarantee you that there will be people like that put into positions of power under this 1990+ page bill.

NO to bigger government.

Bigger government equals less freedom.
