Post subject: Cat on the decline...maniacal pacing...help
Posted: 12 Oct 2009 15:24 pm
Our cat has started maniacally pacing around the house until he wears himself out where he sits down, rests, then does it again. He's going into corners of the house he's never been in before and today fell into the sump pump. We figure its near the end but we're wondering if this is normal behavior for a cat at the end.
Thanks.

I'm sorry I missed this yesterday. Get to a vet. No it's not normal behaviour at the end. Your cat is obviously uncomfortable (probably painful). One of our dogs did the maniacal pacing one evening and actually tried to get into a wall. She had a glazed look. The next morning at the vet we found out she had a kidney stone. Get her some help.
Pardon me...get him some help.

I hope you've been to the vet by now, and that you were able to have your cat treated.

Please take your cat to the vet. Our cat was recently walking around weird and when we took him to the vet his urinary tract was blocked, which can be fatal. At least call a vet if nothing else.
Please take proper care of your pets and get them medical attention if they need it.

He had Alzheimer's and was blind in one eye so we had little choice but to put him down. We got him when he was 3 and he was with us for 12 years so he lived a good, full life.

I'm sorry for your loss and that you had no options. It's always a tough decision to make, but I've always felt that it's the ultimate act of love for our pets.
