So the local STL resident who is a franshisee who sunk big six figs into the rights to have the biz here and pays maybe 5 to 10% royalty and keeps the rest in the STL community is...a bum? Does the franchisee buy his ingredients locally, or does he have a contract to buy them from Five Guys?

I'll take a local joint over a chain place any day of the week...and twice on Sundays.

I tried said Village burger & onion rings Fri night, & gotta say, was pretty good. Enjoyed the rings more. They were fantastic. But the burger was good, too. Really enjoy the fries @ Five Guys. 'Specially the Cajun. I'll give a slight edge to Village.

I thought burger @ Five Guys was a'ight, but still prefer burgers @ Blueberry Hill & O'Connell's.

Have never had Carl's Drive-In. Can anyone vouch for this place?

The house made root beer is the reason to go to Carl's. The burgers are about thinest you'll ever find. You'll want at least a double. Did I mention the root beer?

I DON'T think so!

And Yes, I can vouch for Carl's.
Burgers are thin, have to get a double minimum. And for some reason they will not give you a squirt bottle of ketchup, just a few small paper cups of it. Me and the kids gots to have lots of ketchup with the fries so now I ask and they grudgingly hand it over.
The Root Beer is the best I've ever had!
Just the best! Bar None!
Forget 5 Overpriced Guys and go to Carl's or Hardee's.
For Heavens sake $10 bucks for a burger, fries and baby soda is just a crime!

Funny, when a place is around for so long they quickly get compared to a new establishment...forgetting all the time served...5 Guys might have used Vilage as their prototype when devising the concept...they look for success stories and build on them....Village was the pioneer and will remain after 5 Guys closes its doors when the next "IDEA" comes along...long live the independents.

Believe the 'IDEA' came from the Left Coast still family owned and operated chain of fresh ingredients - and still the winner IMHO - In 'n Out

Generally, most all of the In 'n Outs are within reasonable driving distance of the headquarters near Los Angeles. This assists in the quality control efforts from my experiences with them over about a 40 year period of eating with them.

Five Guy's are franchised, but do seem to get their potatoes from a common supplier.

From what I have observed the esprit de corps - commaradarie is outstanding at In 'n Out [they pay well I am told]. Currently, Five Guy's is likely tooo new in our area to have built that same level of enthusiasm -- but they seem to be trying.

I'm not really sure that you haven't answered your own question.But I haven't heard of anything like that, so i guess it's not so.Anyone who is good enough will be selected(in Australia that is)
