Oh please. He was a rookie and pretty much did what rookies -- even those with an abundance of talent -- do their first year. He discovered there is a big difference between major league and minor league pitching.

Can you (oh please) show me one other rookie in the majors in 2009 that went that long without taking a walk? (I do not think you can, by the way-the next highest I found was 23 AB's). It is a weak point in a promising young player.

That aside, I expect to see great improvement in his '10 numbers. The similarity to Lankford is interesting.

Coming into the season, I would of thought the last thing that people would be worried about with Rasmus would be his walk rate. Discipline was one of the best parts of him in the minor leagues and part of why scouts, GM's, and third party scouting services thought so highly of him.

One thing I can say is that I was impressed that he really didn't strikeout a ton. His strikeout rate actually got better in the majors than the minor leagues. I don't see him going two months with only 3 walks again though, so I'm not going to fret about his patience. He had 24 walks over the final three months and that was when he was struggling to hit.

Tell me why I should fixate on the how long he went without a walk in 2009 and what exactly that portends to.

futuregm-

I know he had improved as the season progressed, but had forgotten how much. Your point about it occurring while slumping is a good point as well. Good trends.

I hope he is the next coming (but I'll settle for being a solid #2 hitter with a plus glove).
