I loved watching Mark McGwire hit the ball.
He was huge, and he BASHED the baseball. I went early to a game for batting practice just to see him. His performance in the HR derby in Boston was awesome. His chase of the HR record with Sosa was dramatic.
BUT, you knew something was going on. YOU knew it; I knew it, LaRussa knew it; BASEBALL knew it. But we all enjoyed it. It was what it was.
I did not feel cheated or manipulated or dismayed. Really, it was what it was, and YOU knew it.
So now all the hypocrites want to step forward and say he should be banned from baseball; that he should not be associated with the Cardinals. Blah, blah, blah!
Listen, I went along with the whole charade and loved to watch him play; so I am not turning on him now. So, what would I like to see happen?
Really, he needs to fess up and try to move forward. He cannot do this without telling the truth. Who has told the truth and not been allowed to move forward? Even Arod bit the bullet and moved on. Pete Rose ….. after how many years of denial.
It is those that hold out who are ostracized—Roger Clemens anyone?
Mark: come clean and move on. We all know what you did, and the questions will dog you until you finally just admit it. Denial is hopeless and will burden the Cardinals in 2010.
I loved watching Mark McGwire hit the ball.
