Per mlbtraderumors:
"The Rockies are willing to listen to trade offers for outfielder Brad Hawpe. Just last month, GM Dan O'Dowd said "We have no desire to move [Hawpe] at all."
"They'd like to add a righty bat to be a reserve outfielder or first baseman."
Ludwick for Hawpe
Then sign Holliday to a 6 year/$108 million deal with no-trade clause.
1. Ryan
2. Schumaker
3. Pujols
4. Holliday
5. Hawpe
6. Rasmus
7. Molina
8. Freese
9. Pitcher

He's 30.
He makes 7.5 mil in 2010 and a 10 mil team option in 2011.
His best year, 2007, he hit 29 homers and drove in 116. thats the only season he has driven is 100. He has been fairly healthy the last 5 years. To me, he doesn't really seem like he offers the "protection" for Albert that even Luddy supplies. Plus, Ryan has already shown he can do it to some degree.
Luddy plays better defense as well.
I'm not really convinced, other than him being a lefty, that he is in any way a real improvement over Ludwick.
All things considered, (and by that i mean assuming we do not sign Holliday) I say Ludwick is more valuable top the Cards than Hawpe would be. I ain't trying to hate though. Hawpe is a good player.

the other option would be maybe they would take Allen Craig++ for hawpe

Exactly - what have you gained? Same stagnant offense as this past year? "Should pursue this" - it ought to offer something special. THAT lineup is supposed to compete with the Phils/Dodgers???
Ummm, Holliday is in there, so yes it is.
3-4-5 OBP's in 2009
Pujols- .443
Holliday- .394
Hawpe- .384 (.372 on the road in 2009)
You don't think that is going to score runs? I trust Hawpe in the lineup a lot more than I do Ludwick given Hawpe has had a .380+ OBP for four straight years.
Last four years batting lines on the road:
2006- .303/.395/.571/.966
2007- .273/.368/.462/.830
2008- .287/.387/.477/.864
2009- .275/.372/.518/.890
You don't want that? Keep in mind that even in his great year, Ludwick had a OBP of .375 and this past year it was a paltry .329.
Now, yes, trading Ludwick for Hawpe may not be that productive, but maybe trading Allen Craig+ Kyle McClellan or Allen Craig++ for Hawpe would work since Colorado would like to add a RH batting reserve for OF and 1B.
Then spend money on Figgins, and you could have a lineup of:
1. Figgins
2. Schumaker
3. Pujols
4. Hawpe/Ludwick
5. Ludwick/Hawpe
6. Rasmus
7. Molina
8. Ryan
9. Pitcher
