Here's an interview with Rob Raines.

Rob Rains doing Cardinals and George Scolak doing Blues is awesome! Those are two pretty big names coming back.

I wonder who else is on the staff? Anybody know other than Rains' son? I heard Rob on KMOX last week and he was saying how the multimedia elements in the sports section will be second to none. Podcasts, videos, interviews, said that they will give readers plenty of options to read, see and hear everything they want to know about St. Louis sports. That must be BJ's job I assume? Was his MLB.com thing an internship or paid job? I thought he did a pretty good job for what seems to be a fairly young age. Sure nepitism was involved but its not like he isn't qualified.

Also, gotta say that it will be weird not having a print edition to read. Not sure how I will like that.

B.J. Rains had some decent stuff on MLB.com...probably was hired because he was cheap....What's he doing? Baseball?

That part is funny. He has been doing some substitute teaching of late, 3rd grade one day last week.

His title will be online media editor, whatever that is.

He also said their hockey writer will be George Solack (sp?)

Csolak as the hockey writer is a very good thing.

Indeed.

Was it Csolak or Gordan who said "You can't win with Brett Hull"

At least it won't be Dave Leucking whos every other sentence had something to do with Brett Hull.

+1

Don't get me wrong BB, I like Brett Hull and am glad he's going into the Hall but when he left I moved on with it. Leucking never did.

Yeah, it was like he had been appointed to keep the Hull eternal flame going.
Kind of like Cusamano can start an interview talking about curling, and find a way to switch it around to high school basketball? That was
pretty much what Luecking was doing with Hull after he left.
BTW - I have used the adplus extension to wipe out almost all of the signature pictures on this forum...but yours
is a keeper! LOL..

Never heard Csolak say that.
He did have the stones to write the infamous "Golden Bratt" story that punched a few holes in Hull's image..

That story was in the RFT, which means no one read it. I'm not sure that took stones.

Really?? Funny - I know a lot of people who read it.
When the word got out - a LOT of people who didn't normally read the RFT, went looking for copies.
Since you know what paper it was in, it would seem you did too.

Post subject: Bill McClellan mentioned about laid off PD staff starting up

What happened to the on-line site that some laid-off PD staff that they were going to start up? He commented in his column that Mrs. Pulitzer was giving $500,000 for the effort which Bill thought was way too little.

I read this about 2 years ago in his column where he mentions something to the effect that it was "chintzy".

No, I googled it. To no surprise, the search produces nothing but dead links. I would much appreciate it if you could post the story here. Thanks in advance.

I didn't hear the bit that you were referring to, but I believe the Beacon has mostly ex-PD staffers, and it's a pretty good site:

I wish I could.
At one time I had it scanned to my hard-drive. I still get requests from people asking for a copy, but somewhere thru the years, it got lost in a crash.
