The Cards aren't going to spend 10 to 15 million on another SP. It won't happen. They may go after another RP and I'd like to see them get Derosa but the other is a pipe dream unless they decide to increase payroll to 120 million plus...

Lackey has said that he wants AJ Burnett money, I'm guessing somewhere around 5 years/ 85 million.

Valverde will probably get around K-Rod money, I'd say somewhere around 3 years/ 30 million.

Don't forget both are Type A free agents.

So you're giving up 2 draft picks and about 25 million dollars a year for Lackey who's 31 and has had arm problems, and Valverde who supposedly is 30, but he's had disputes about his age.

Although both are excellent pitchers, do you really want to commit lots of money and years to them?

Who knows how much more years Lackey and Valverde have.

...but remember we are talking about replacing MH and justifying the trade and Lackey would not cost more than MH. Gordo likes Soriano of ATL. What ya think?
