How does the foliage look throughout the life of the plant? Is it deep green? Any curling? What color are the leaves when the flowers dry up?

Some ideas...

Are you fertilizing? Where are the plants located? Too much fertilizer and too little sun are leading causes of tomatoes not fruiting. Laying off the nitrogen (fertilizer) should force the plant to fruit if this is the case. I've never done soil tests before this year, but a simple, cheap soil test can tell you a LOT about the state of your soil, if you're so inclined.

Also, what variety of tomato is it? Depending on when you planted them, it's possible that the extremely high heat last week rendered them sterile temporarily. The cooler temperatures may help. Smaller ones tend to do better in the heat.

One last idea, is it possible that birds are eating the smallest new fruit?

I'd put my money on too much nitrogen in the soil though, usually too much fertilizer.

Heat and too much sunlight. Try shadecloth or planting your tomatoes between rows of corn, if possible.

I've never heard of too much sunlight causing no fruiting! Vegetables devour sunlight. If it's accompanied by high heat, that's another issue.

On my planet, too much heat and too much sunlight seem to go hand in hand. Where do you sit to get out of the heat? In the shade?

What planet are you from?? Laughing It's been 83 for the high on my planet, with full sun. A few weeks ago it was 105 with full sun. One is warm and sunny; the other is WAY TOO HOT and sunny! The tomatoes are back now that it's not so hot but still sunny.

Did you read the post that stated when the flowering problems were occurring? It was when we were having our hottest part of the summer. The only way to cool the plants down in that heat is to provide them shade. When it's 80 they don't need the shade and they are setting blooms just fine. It's common sense that you relieve the stress of the plants in whatever manner you can provide. I simply provided an idea and you attacked it without cause. Now leave it alone.

OK, fair enough. That said, some tomatoes resist heat better than others. I've tried some of them before and I didn't care for the production or flavor (though the Romas stood up to it just fine). Anyone have recommendations? Same for lettuce. I have a good swiss chard crop that thrives in the heat, but I'd really like some good lettuce in July and August.

I am getting alot of tomatoes now, but they're still green. I took some off and made fried green tomatoes, not healthy, but they tasted good. I don't know if I did it right, I just sliced them up, stuck them in egg batter and sprinkled cracker crumbs on them, fried them up.
