Wash U. Is there a reason for the lack of local talent or does it just work out that way? We have attended the tournament with Wash U, Il Wes. and DePauw and have enjoyed the games. DePauw has at least two local girls on the team, Emily Marshall from Nerinx and a girl from St. Joe(somebody can help me with her name).

Jenna Fernandez from St.Joe plays at DePauw

Looks like there is quite a pipeline from St. Louis to Greencastle, Indiana.

There is quite the pipeline to Greencastle. I had no idea.

Washington University always has a few local players on both sides.

The men recruited freshman Ben Hoener from Parkway South. He was a great addition for a team that loves to move the ball and shoot from the outside.

The women graduated Jill Brandt from Cor Jesu, a multi-year starter, and have Hannah Cusworth from MICDS and Claire Schaeperkoetter from the 2008 State Championship Rock Bridge team.

There may be others but I believe that is about it.

I am not sure why we do not get more local players. I will have to ask.

Smile I do think Nancy has let a few local girls slip thru, but with her record second guessing her recruiting would be like wondering why Christ didn't recruit more disciples.
Remember too the ACT scores at Wash U are between 28 and 32. Not a lot of basketball girls can compete academically at the U.

Isn't Katie Matthews from Nerinx also at Depauw? Probably the best behind the back move I have seen in the girls game.

@Coach Big Al: academics is a factor as is cost. The sticker price and discount rate (cost after scholarships) are significant to say the very least.

I thought the Bears were Div III? Are they allowed to give scholarships? Or are you talking about academic and housing scholarships?

Yes she was on the roster for the first season, but after that no.

I here you there. I believe when you factor in tuition, room & board it's about 10 grand more than DePauw.

DePauw University
Cost of Attending for 2009-10
Tuition: $32,800
Room & Board: $8,740
Health Service Fee: $255
Student Activity Fee: $195
Total: $41,990
Does not include cost of mandatory laptop.
