Post subject: Heart warming story about a little lost dog

I teach at an Elem. School (grades 4-6). Last Thursday, it was pouring, and we had a little dog show up first thing in the morning that appeared to have been swept away by some recent flash flooding. It was a shiz-tzu, and every inch of that poor little thing was coated to the skin with branches, leaves, and debris. Its left eye was completely popped out of the socket and laying down on its cheek area. We called the police, and they were on their way to take it to the Humane Society when some students got off of the bus. They knew whose dog it was, and had helped make "lost pet" posters for the owner. I called her, described the sweet little dog's injuries, and she started acting as if it was not her pet. The police arrived while I was still on the phone with her, and she finally agreed to come to the school to claim it. The police waited for about an hour for the no-show. They took the dog to her house, and she claimed it was not hers (lie). They took it to the Humane Society, and it was cleaned up. The eye needed to be removed, but they did not have the funds, and were going to put it down. After school, one of the students that had witnessed the whole thing told his family what had happened. They went to the Humane Society, paid for the eye removal, and adopted him! They brought him home Mon. His name is now Jack, and he has 3 wonderful little boys to call his own. Thought I would share.

A good story. I always enjoy these type of stories. I hope this little dog lives a long and happy life.

How sad that the little dog lost an eye, but wonderful that it gained a loving family that will pamper it and care for it. Shame on the former owner who acted like it wasn't her "baby!"

I have this kind of dog and I worry about his eyes, always. He is really a tough little dog and this story broke my heart. I would have been so very grateful to have someone notify me if they had found my dog. What is wrong with people? When dogs have problems, as most people do, why refuse them? I deny myself many things for the life of my dogs. I know many people who claim they 'love' dog till they start creating 'problems' and then they get rid of them. I feel this will come back to them when they have 'problems' of themselves. People! I'll take a dog any day!!!!!!!!

Oh spirit, you said it! My friends laugh that I "spoil" my dogs. Nuts to them. If spoiling means they get fed twice a day, a few interesting toys and me to play with, and getting to go for neighborhood walks twice a day is spoiling, well give me spoiled any day.
And frenchie, thanks for the story. Jack's new family are my day's heroes.

You ARE so right! No matter WHAT I do for my dogs I KNOW it is appreciated. People just don't act the same. Everything for granted. My dogs, until the END, will know I loved them. NUTS to whoever feels differently. I just loved this story so much. T hanks for sharing. Made MY day!!!
Again I say, I'll take my dog any day!!!!

Just got back from our evening walk and was thinking about his new name. OMG, I am soooo slow. "Jack", as in One-eyed???
