1.Brazil----they have the talent to be favored in every World Cup 2.Spain----probably the best team in the world but I wonder if they have the physical strength to make it through a long, grueling tournament. Ghana---the best, most organized team in Africa. They will be dangerous.

2. Brazil
3. hmmmmm Germans are always a solid team, but the Dutch were were playing well, but never seem to keep it together enough in a tournament.

1) Spain. This is a new generation of Spaniards. The European Cup showed this group is not carrying the burdens of past underachievers.

2) Italy. Hate 'em. They are boring and when they are boring, they are succesful.

3) Brasil. They are essentially playing in front a home crowd every game.

4) Darkhorse: Argentina. They are the only powerhouse enjoying the same season as South Africa.

1. Spain: Even though I think the center of their defense is suspect, they are the best team in the world right now

2. Brazil: Their approach and formation of late, though distinctly different from the great Brazilian sides of the past, lends itself well to competing against the European powers.

3. Russia: I put them ahead of the Dutch because of their manager, Guus Hiddink, and their play in Euro 2008. I also see Netherlands fizzling out.

4. Germany: Never count out zee Germans. Good manager and a style of football that is efficient that always seems to find a way to win.

I didn't include the Italians, mainly because they seem to be holding on to the past and not embracing the strong young talent they do possess.

Brazil - best team right now by far. Kaka and Fabiano are too much to handle for any team...


Spain went undefeated so long because they didn't play Brazil.....and Spain has a long history of having great teams that choke. I don't put much stock into the Euros because of the setup....freakin Greece won it one year...

Curious what you mean by this "because of the setup." It is set like the WC with a group stage and then a knock out stage. 2 wins against a quality Russian squad. A win against the Italians who I think are going down in quality as it has been eluded to in this topic and others since they will not look towards their youth. And then capping off a German squad who looked a bit lost playing against the Spanish.

Now like all tournaments the WC does depend a touch on your group and the teams you get to face, but still you have to play the games and Spain (the squad of the past couple years) knows how to play and win in these one or done matches.

That's only 2, Gio. I guess we can assume your third choice.

1.Brazil. Love the style, love the players. These guys are why they call it the beautiful game.

2. Italy. Hate their slug-it-out style, but they are tactically proficient, play tough, and have just enough playmakers.

3. England. My dark-horse. I know they are chronic underachievers, but I think they have the right combination of talent and coaching to make a run.

The way the semifinals are set up....

They need to switch it up so you don't have the opportunity to play the same team twice unless it's in the finals...

I also don't see how Spain got the number one ranking in the world because of a Euro only tourney...

Imo Brazil would work them over...

I only mentioned one as my favorite...

I would pick (3) England over Spain and of course I'm going to pick (2) Italy.

I don't put much into Italy's qualifying either because just like in 05/06 the team changed significantly before the WC...

They have a friendly against Holland next month...that should be a nice test.
