ok...perhaps im crazy...but under Jermaine Dye's player page on mlb, under the awards and honors part, he apparantly won 2006 world series MVP. Not too shabby i think...if he can be our mvp for a world series and not even be on the team, we definitely should sign him!

Jermaine Dye is still a pretty good player, very productive. Yes, he was the '06 WS MVP.

are you sure? cause im pretty sure the cardinals played the tigers that year, and that david eckstein was the WS MVP that year. It even says, "2006 World series MVP-St. Louis". I guess he was the 2005 world series mvp for the chicago white sox...
i just thought it was funny.

This class is less than impressive...

Johnny Damon (36)
Vladimir Guerrero (34)
Bobby Abreu (36)
Jermaine Dye (36)
Xavier Nady (31)
Carl Crawford (2

*$10MM club option with a $1.25MM buyout
I think Xavier Nady makes the most sense, he is a career .280 AVG 20 HR 80 RBI guy but he is coming off of an injury.
[
Thoughts?
On April 14, 2009, Nady suffered a right-elbow injury which ultimately required surgery despite an initial attempt to rehab the injury. The surgery will sideline him for an extended period of time, and is possibly career threatening, as the success rates for multiple elbow ligament replacement surgeries is lower.[3]
Nady will require a second Tommy John surgery to repair his ailing right elbow and is done for the 2009 MLB season. Nady is also questionable for most of 2010. [4]

LF Abreu, Damon or Dye sure. Nady is going to be out most of 2010. Nady a career 80 RBI guy? He's only had 80 or better in a year ONE time in his career!
Byrnes, the guy that hit 14 homers total in 2 years? You think he's the man to put behind Albert? Just say no. Crawford would be great but I agree with others Tampa will keep him.
Starting pitchers
Brandon Webb -- The Diamondbacks told Brandon Webb Friday that they fully intend to pick up his $8.5 million option for 2010.(from Rotoworld)
Piniero, I think will leave and actually I think you've seen the BEST of his career. I wish him luck but he'll never match this year.
Davis, Wolf, fine but really I think Smoltz will be back to fill the 4/5 spot and someone like Boggs, Garcia, etc to fill the 5/4 slot.
Third base, well I know some like Beltre but I'd rather see Freese get a shot. Same with Figgins (who I think will get more money then we want to give). So I say, since DeRosa has said he'd like to come back try to resign him. In spring training Freese and DeRosa can fight it out for 3B. Loser goes to the bench and plays some in LF/RF.

The discussion from Tampa is that they plan to exercise the option on Crawford. Tampa does not plan to exercise the option on Iwamura. They plan to use Zobrist full time at 2B.

Crawford would be awesome, but that's not going to happen. If the Red Sox want to stay competetive, they cannot lose Bay...he will stay in Boston for a big salary. I think Holliday goes to a big-market team for the big money. That leaves us with some major holes, and no immediate minor-league help to turn to. (Freeze being the only one near ready)
We need a LF and 3B, two positions that usually demand a power hitter. I think we re-sign DeRosa, but as a super-utility type. Is a trade out of the question for an everyday LF? Maybe we could get Milton Bradley from the Cubs?

If the price is right, I would re-sign DeRosa. He can be used in LF and also the infield if the other infield options don't work out.
Vlad intrigues me too...at the right price.

OMG....Not Vlad. Have you been watching the play-offs? Just what we need, another guy that swings at everything. |

The crazy question is what's the status on Manny. Looking at that list of free agent left fielders he might be the only one to come at a one year contract and offer some protection for Albert.

Miguel Tejada?
Could play 3B if Freese struggles, SS if B Ryan falters but would be penciled as your opening day starter at 2B. Move Skip back to the OF and sign Xavier Nady or Mark Derosa. Now you have a legit offense:
Ryan/Skip
Rasmus
Pujos
Tejada
Ludwick
Nady/Skip/Derosa
Freese/Ryan
Molina
