We got her from the APA after finding her photo online. My SO wanted another Border Collie, so when he saw her picture he was immediately interested. We called the APA on Monday to make sure she hadn't been adopted yet before driving into St. Louis; after doing a meet and greet with her, we decided to take her home. She's 4 years old; her previous pet parent had to give her up due to foreclosure.

She didn't even bark until we had a visitor Tuesday morning; she will make a good watchdog. She loves to play fetch with a ball or toy; the shelter told us that is her favorite thing to do. She gets along with cats which was very important since we have 3. She seems to be adapting very well to her new home; she's already learning the house, yard and the neighbor's house and yard. The neighbors really like her which is a very good thing since she will stay with them anytime we go out of town. We had her on a lead when we brought her home on Monday, but have already let her out without being on a lead and she stays in the yard. And she comes right to us when we call her.

We're very happy to have her; she is helping us get past the loss of our other Border Collie 3 weeks ago.

Sorry for your loss, but very happy you decided to adopt another. Sounds like you have a winner. Enjoy!

Oh, does this make my rainy day bright! Thanks for sharing with us as I was so sorry about your other loss.

Sounds like you have 'perfect ' dog. Hope her future is long and healthy. Just sounds so wonderful. What is the her name? I only hope no one does anything to harm her. When I read about dog lost or stolen just ruins my day. I am so very happy that you found her. This dog deserves the love and must have had good home before for the personality she has.

Sure do like it when people take a chance and give their love to another dog after loss of one. Not easy to do, you will never forget your other baby but the way the dog passed away when you were gone is sure a wonder. That wasn't coincidence, she had it planned. Wanted to spare you the heartache, I believe it.

Spirit, the dog's name is Lilly. She has adapted well to being with us; we no longer have to use a leash when she is outside because she will stay in the yard. She loves to play fetch; she wears me out throwing the ball for her to run after it. Two of three cats are still somewhat freaked out by her presence; at least today they did come out and were in the same room with Lilly, but when she got too close, they either booked or did the fur standing up/hissing thing. The third cat has no problem with her at all; this morning they were nose-to-nose with each other.

Her previous pet parent did a great job with her; she is so friendly and outgoing and has such a sweet personality. I'm somewhat surprised that someone else hadn't adopted her before we did. We're the lucky ones!

What a cute name! I am sure it suits her. Guess the people who gave her up would like to know that she got such a good home. I am!

Do you ever watch tv with all the activity you have w/the cats and your dog? I think that would really keep me entertained. Nothing better than having action right near you. My dogs always keep me happy. Never a dull moment. You only get what you put into taking care of them.

Thanks for sharing w/us about your new addition. Having pets is really making life worth while. I am only glad you have someone who likes animals too. My ex didn't. What a creep! If person doesn't like dogs I don't have any use for them either.

Congrats on the new addition. I think it's wonderful that your new family member is a rescue! May God grant you much joy and peace, and bless you richly for your kindness in adopting.

I think I'm finally ready to adopt a dog. I've tried replying to several ads on craigslist for people that need Boxer pups re-homed. In some cases I will get a response and then after I reply back I get nothing...very frustrating!

My mind is very set on getting a Boxer, since I know for the most part what to expect with them. My last dog was a Boxer and she was a guardian of her family and home, a 75 lb lap dog, very obedient, and palyful as a puppy all the way up to 14 years old.

Good luck, F-Town. My brother and sister-in-law used to be hooked on German Shepherds, but now after having a couple Boxers, will never go back. They just love them. There's no mistaking a doggie kiss from a Boxer. Have fun!

Yes, I've thought about adopting a pit since there are so many out there and I know that they are also very sweet dogs given the right environment. But I can't seem to bring myself to settle for anything other than a Boxer.

Channel 5 at 10 on Monday has special information about pit bulls being trained to fight. Can you understand why people get entertained by this kind of act? It isn't what the dogs want to do but their owners make them do it.

Even worse is that these people use "bait" dogs, usually some sort of a mutt or a runt to train the pits to kill.
