Even the most far-right Republicans show a consistency in their beliefs, as much as one might disagree with them.

I agree completely. He is probably the most shameless politician out there. Wait, let me read today's polls, then I'll tell you what I think.

If he sides with the Republicans on a filibuster, he should be stripped of any leadership post and ousted from the Democratic caucus. If he wants to become a Republican, let him.

Is this another of your anti-Semitic posts? If so, "Moe_Szyslak" will want to join the party soon.

I have to ask, is that a joke? I really don't get it.

Why? Not attempting to argue but just asking...why?

Probably an unwarranted remark on my part, but you did frame this as a flaw in Lieberman's belief system (and "Moe_Szyslak" does rant on and on about 'international bankers')

Personally, I think Lieberman is just one of many centrists who will oppose this public option. The liberal wing of the Democratic Party miscalculated the public's opposition to the public option. I think Lieberman is opposing this bill on principle, not for political gain.

I respect Lieberman as a Senator, although I strongly oppose his views on the Middle East.

To answer Jeepster's question.

"Independent" Joe (with at least a million dollars in donations from big insurance) announced that he would join republicans in a filibuster of the Health Overhaul if it contains any public option.

Looks like the Republican plan is to let the final bill come to the floor and use typical tricks (I.E. a filibuster) to kill healthcare.

That's why the anger. Joe has been protected by the Dems, but when he is needed, he's a typical politician. It's all about the mighty donations!

Business as usual in DC.

"Typical tricks" is a tool that the minority always uses in the Senate. Has done ever since the Senate introduced the concept of the fillibuster. Sometimes the fillibuster is used to stall necessary legislation, such as civil rights legislation. Other times, it is used to protect a legitimate concern of the majority against hastily constructed, flawed legislation. But, regardless, it is a tried and true part of American politics.

Tricks would be finding some way to subvert the filibuster, such as the so called nuclear option, which I'm not sure exactly what that is. Now that would be a monumental mistake.
