Sorry, but it's all unjustified hype at this point...
I'm not from Missouri, but the best baseball team plays there, and I've enjoyed any good times there --- I say "SHOW ME"
The Big Ten/ACC Challenge will be a good place to start.
As to football, there's no doubt the league was mediocre in non-conference play, but the bowl season might offer somewhat of a repreieve...Big Ten teams always seem to get matched against a higher-finishing team in other leagues in these games, so maybe this comparatively "down" year will allow more even matchups.

Was listening to the News-Gazette podcast today and they had spoken with Gene Keady at the Big Ten Media Day. Coach Keady says this is the strongest the Big Ten has been since 1981.

Sure it is all specualtive.
But there is some basis for rankings.
....and it's not hard to see the B10 is going to be a premier basketball conference for quite some time.

I think it's ALWAYS been premier, come March....
The problem is that it's taken 3-4 months for Big 10 teams to demostrate they can hang with other leagues around the country.
That's why winning the Challenge (for all the inherent disadvantages the Big 10 is saddled with in this thing) is key; If we win the Challenge -- finally -- all the hype will be validated...
At this point, the Big Ten is long on potential, but pretty thin on demonstrable results.
