Some random footy thoughts on a dismal day...
With Sir Alex Ferguson's continued frustration with the FA, referees, and other managers combined with Steve Bruce's recent managerial successes at Wigan and Sunderland are we bearing witness to the old Scot's Swan Song and a new United manager?
Do you think the Special One, Jose Mourinho, will return to the EPL with the potential demise of Intermilan in the Champions' League?
Even with Liverpool's victory over United how much does Rafa miss the sunny shores of Spain right now? And with that, how long will Manuel Pelligrini last at Real Madrid with some recent hiccups? Is there a potential managerial swap on the horizon?
Will the only Italian team that moves on in the Champions League be from somewhere other than Milan?

I think AC Milan moves on as does Juve...

If Intermilan can't get it together in the Champions League I think Jose is out. Another scudetto won't save him. With an improved midfield and what I consider an improvement in the forward position with Eto'o over Ibrahimovic I can't figure out why they are not winning.
But yes, I do think AC Milan and Juve will get through.

I'd like to see Milan go through, it keeps Marseille from going through.
But I would much rather see Juve drop and Bayern go through.
It's been a while since a German side made some noise in the CL.
I absolutely loved the 96-97 final when Borussia Dortmund absolutely destroyed Juve.

Ricken chipping Peruzzi with his first touch of the ball was a thing of beauty.

It was the only time that I remember Zidane being marked out of a game.
Lambert tore him up.

That would be why I said "It's been a while since a German side made some noise in the CL."
For the record - It's been even longer since Juve have won it.
Why do you act like everything is an attack on you personally.
The last German team to win it was BvD. They happened to beat Juve.
It's not some conspiracy against you. Relax.
I'm tired of seeing nothing but England, Italy, and Spain.
I'd love to see Ajax bring itself back to being a Euro force also.

Why did you quote for? Did I say anything about any German teams?
I get it....you don't like Italian teams...
No need to reinforce that point after every post I make here....

Get a clue.
You said you want Milan and Juve to go through.
I said I'd like to see Milan advance but not Juve because it would be at the expense of a German team because it's been a while since they had any success.
I then listed the last success.
And then you have to make some smart --- comment about having to "dig back more than a decade blah blah blah" and "greatsuccessnot".
It's not my fault that Juve happened to be the opponent last time a German team won. (Bayern drew in 00-01.) It's merely coincidence. My post was regarding how long it's been since Germany had done anything in the CL.
It wasn't negative on any Italian team. I was just pointing out how long it had been since a German team won outright.
Get over yourself.

Sorry to f up the thread....
Inter is all about the CL these days. Jose will be out if they fail again.
I don't think Eto'o is better than Ibra...maybe he's a better all around player but Ibra is one of the best strikers in the world for me...
I'm not sure why they aren't winning in the CL either....but they still have time to turn it around and I think they will...

No need to apologize. I appreciate the back and forth between two individuals that are obviously passionate about their respective sides. I'm not exactly sure who Sport Billy follows but I know you are a strong supporter of Italy and Juve.
I wanted to see something on the Soccer forum that stepped outside local soccer, especially with the Champions League seemingly up for grabs this year.
With no statistics to back this up, Ibra has always seemed to me to get good results against mid to lower table clubs while failing to achieve against bigger clubs or on the Champions League stage. Maybe Eto'o has benefitted from his strong supporting cast over the years.

Newcastle since the early 1990's.
To comment on your original post.
I could see Jose Mourinho actually taking a year or two break when he leaves Inter.
Sir Alex is getting old and cranky this year. He repeatedly complains about officials or what have you to mask the short comings of his current squad. It's never his players fault, but always the officials fault. When he goes, I see David Moyes taking his spot. He's had a long run at Everton, and being a fellow Scot, SAF is keen on him.
Quiz: Without looking it up, how did Jose Mourinho's managerial career get a huge boost in the early 1990's?

Interesting points to bring up. Surprising as it is, Rafa's firing announcement has yet to show up on Soccernet or the Prem website. As a fan you have to start asking yourself how soon the axe will fall on his head. Obviously the season is far from over but the form of the club is just a mess. Sure there have been injury issues and no depth, but his managerial strategy has not made a lick of sense. Finishing up the Prem league, I do not see SAF coming back for another year. I think you hit it on the head that he is in a constant battle with the FA, and now he has started attacking the national club and their scheduling of matches.
Moving right on to La Liga, hmm... Madrid is a mess. Atletico can not figure out how to win a match at all. Then Real has lost form as of late. I see Pelligrinni losing his job in the near future. Got to love the Real Madrid policy for their coaches. I still like Sevilla's play and hope to see them move up in the table, but I have obvious concerns about their depth as the season, champs league and Kings cup draw on. Finally valencia once again is making a move up the table, and the names villa and silva show up once again on the trade block. They need the money, but to lose both those guys I fear will see Valencia fall at least to the second tier league. Go Mallorca for a thus far "Hull city" play that sees them in the upper parts of the table their first year out of relegation.
And finally the creme de la creme - the Champs League. Still so many questions. Liverpool is in a must win situtation at Lyon that without Stevie G I am not sure they can pull off. I feel the Real/Milan game is another must win. I see the winner going on to winning the group, the other faltering down to third. Group A is another big question as it would be nice to see Bayern progress, but how about the italians and french, no telling there either. And finally to end my wall of text, are we going to see a failure of the SPL to get a club in the knockout stages?? celtic has already failed and it looks like Rangers are chasing them out. How can either of these clubs think they will compete in the Prem if they can not even make it to the knock out stage.
