I have now seen 3 of the 5 2008 Oscar nominations for Best Picture. Benjamin Button was good. Slumdog was original and very good. Milk was fantastic. I have it in my top 22 all time (7.5 out of 10 or better).
Were the Hollywood bigwigs worried about promoting yet another liberal themed movie to the top?
There were four performances worthy of some type of award here: Penn, Hirsch, Franco, and Brolin. I admittedly have not seen all of the nominee performances though.

I've seen "Milk" about 3 times in the past week on HBO. Great movie. Can't believe Dan White only had to serve 5 years for double murder.
Slumdog is pretty good. Haven't seen the other movie mentioned, yet.

I've yet to see "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", but I've watched the other best picture nominees. Out of the movies I've seen that were nominated for best picture I'd rank them:
1. "Slumdog Millionaire"
2. "Frost/Nixon"
3. "Milk"
4. "The Reader"
"Milk" was very good and the performance by Penn was phenominal. I saw "The Wrestler" before "Milk" and I was sure that there was no way I'd support Penn over Rourke for Best Actor. Boy was I wrong. After viewing "Milk" I couldn't understand how anyone could vote for anyone but Sean Penn.

I just wasn't all that enamored of MILK.
I loved The Reader, it was my favorit film last year.
But Micky's film was a heartbreaker. I keep thinking about it, so perhaps I liked it better than The Reader. The two were neck and neck.
SLumbDog was quuite good and would ordinarily have been my favorite since I'm into anythin Indian. It was lovely.
But The Reader was original, and Mickey's performance in The Wrestler was mesmerizing.

Please tell me you've seen "The Namesake". Another one of my all-time favorites. The scene on the rock jetty, at the beach, is incredible.
I also just watched "Water". Another fantastic film. By the way, the most beautiful Indian women are the most beautiful women in the world.

The Namesake and Water are both must see films.

Oh sure I've seen both. Namesake was in my top 5 films that year, I think 2007. The women in it were beautiful.

No. My rankings would be 1) Indian 2) Columbian and 3) Lebanese. My apologies to all you blond ladies out there. Last is the various remaining Amazonian and Australian aboriginal tribes. If any of you are reading this, I apologize as well.
