What a great game today by the young man. Not just the pure hustle, never give-up TD-saving play, but he seemed to be everywhere on the defensive side of the ball and special teams.
It should be fun to watch him progress and grow as a football player the next few years.

And how about the speed Terry Hawthorne showed on the play? That was not a 250# lineman that he ran down. That was JJK kind of speed!

The kid had 28 tds offensively in high school and clearly has lighting speed and Zook tells him he should be ready to play on both sides of the ball......wait for it......next year, Apparently Zook doesn't feel the need to have that kind of offensive threat added to his club bag in 2009. Just pathetic.

I agree. He has excellent speed. He broke up at least one pass on Sat. He returns kicks. He showed his athleticism. I would like to see him on the offense on occasion.

He's a true freshman that was asked to step in and fill a role in the defensive backfield that he really didn't have any experience at. Trying to acclimate a TF is difficult enough, trying to do so on BOTH sides of the ball right off the bat is both fruitless and counterproductive.
I don't see how this is grounds for a Zook criticism. On the contrary the receiving corps was quite deep and quite talented this year, and Hawthorne was singularly gifted enough to even try the move to DB to provide the much needed depth.
Do you really think the receiving corps has lacked weapons, or is it more that the offense has been terribly ineffective in getting them the ball?

He's a playmaker, put the ball in his hands and see what he does. With a Zook/Schultz led offense, how confusing can it be?
My point is, if the team and coaching staff are struggling, think outside the box in order to create a spark. But, no, this program loves the status quo. Thank gawd that Hawthorne provided the spark by himself.
