You guys are really being short-sighted as our options in leftfield aren't going to be Holliday or Bay.
The strategy is to acquire a guy who can get on base in front of Albert so teams can't pitch around El Hombre, who isn't looking for a $100M, long term contract.
After seeing the lineup with as good a cleanup hitter as we could get hitting behind Albert, I'm more convinced than ever that high on base percentage guys batting in front of Albert are more valuable than a slugger batting behind him!
I absolutely and totally agree with your bolded statement for several reasons - it is going to be alot less cheaper and risky to sign an OBP guy - to me Pujols is protected if a guy is on 1st - if you could bat Skip first and a 380-400 obp guy second then you could drop Rasmus to 5th or 6th and put Yadi back where he belongs - 8th (your 4th hitter is either Freese or Ludwick or if you can get another 3b or OF cheap)
Damon does have a poor arm but Holliday didn't exactly have a big gun in left and weve lived with erratic fielding and weak arms in left for a couple years.
Damon catches the ball, gets on base and scores runs!
If the Yankees let him go, then he will be available and probably for a two year deal.
By all accounts he's in fantastic shape and along with a still high on field performance level he also brings a loose personality that is sorely missing in this sometime uptight lineup.
We could do alot worse than Johnny Damon batting second and playing leftfield in 2010.
