Thanks for your "expert" opinion, too bad a real expert Bernie said he'd take Damon for a year or two at the end of his show yesterday.

You guys are really being short-sighted as our options in leftfield aren't going to be Holliday or Bay.

The strategy is to acquire a guy who can get on base in front of Albert so teams can't pitch around El Hombre, who isn't looking for a $100M, long term contract.

After seeing the lineup with as good a cleanup hitter as we could get hitting behind Albert, I'm more convinced than ever that high on base percentage guys batting in front of Albert are more valuable than a slugger batting behind him!

Damon does have a poor arm but Holliday didn't exactly have a big gun in left and weve lived with erratic fielding and weak arms in left for a couple years.

Damon catches the ball, gets on base and scores runs!

If the Yankees let him go, then he will be available and probably for a two year deal.

By all accounts he's in fantastic shape and along with a still high on field performance level he also brings a loose personality that is sorely missing in this sometime uptight lineup.

We could do alot worse than Johnny Damon batting second and playing leftfield in 2010.

An aging, below average defensive outfielder with grossly-inflated power numbers who will make a lot more money than he's worth because he's a glamourous name who will likely win another ring this year.

Its called buying high, and its exactly what the Cardinals canNOT afford to do.

Both you AND Bernie are wrong on this one....

Totally agree. Pass. Did I mention he throws like a girl?

Bernie is as much of an expert as you and I.

As for Damon...

An old, bad defensive outfielder that is coming off the best year of his career which coincided with the move to new Yankee Stadium is not a smart buy. He's making 13 mil a year and is coming off his best season ever. He's not taking much of a discount and he's a type A FA to boot. Damon is a very bad idea for this team. Much better off going with Baldelli, Byrd, Nady, or possibly even Aubrey Huff in the event Holliday doesn't re sign. Less money, less years and less risk.

I absolutely and totally agree with your bolded statement for several reasons - it is going to be alot less cheaper and risky to sign an OBP guy - to me Pujols is protected if a guy is on 1st - if you could bat Skip first and a 380-400 obp guy second then you could drop Rasmus to 5th or 6th and put Yadi back where he belongs - 8th (your 4th hitter is either Freese or Ludwick or if you can get another 3b or OF cheap)

If we're going to pay for an over the hill outfielder, i'd rather bring back Jim Edmonds to play Left Field. He would do just as well as Damon.

You gain two first-round picks when you offer Holliday arbitration and lose him via free agency. So you'd be losing one of the picks you received by signing Abreu.

Will signing Johnny Damon be enough to help to keep Albert in town? I don't beleive so.
