Last week I watched "Inherit The Wind" on TCM. I haven't seen it in years and I am still very impressed with the acting ability of the two great stars, Fredric March and Spencer Tracy. March played Matthew Harrison Brady (William Jennings Bryan) and Tracy played Henry Drummond (Clarence Darrow) in this film on the Scopes Monkey Trail,

I would rate these two very high on the list of actors protraying attorneys.

I agree; Both March and Tracy did a wonderful job. That is a movie I can watch over and over and not get tired of it, especially the court room scenes. As a side note, dancer Gene Kelly played the newspaper role modeled after H. L. Mencken.

Another favorite of mine is "Anatomy of a Murder." Jimmie Stewart plays the defense attorney and George C. Scott is the prosecutor (Mr. Dancer from Lansing). It's a great film from start to finish and has great courtroom scenes. Joseph Welsh plays the judge. He was the counsel for the McCarthy Committee who confronted McCarthy for his antics on the committee ("Sir, at long last have you no decency, have you no shame"). Not a trained actor but believable in the role. Also co-stars Lee Remick, Ben Gazzara, Arthur O'Connell and Eve Arden, all good. If you've never seen it, I highly recommend it. One of Otto Preminger's best films with a score by Duke Ellington.

Another vote for Stewart in Anatomy of a Murder.

One of my favorite movies period...

Another piece of trivia about Anatomy of a Murder. The fellow who portray's the states attorney along side George C. Scott is Brooks West. He is the real life husband of Eve Arden who plays James Stewarts secretary.

Oh drtim1980, no offense but I said "Great" attorney performances. While I like Joe Pesci, his performance as Vincent Gambini is not in the same league as Tracy, March, Stewart, or Peck.

"Anatomy" was just on AMC a few weeks ago. First time I've ever seen it and I was quite impressed.

Back story is interesting too, in that will all of the explicit dialogue, my wife and I couldn't believe it went into as much detail as it did. Turns out that the movie was quite scandalous in it's use of attention to detail.

I have always been a fan of The Verdict. I felt that there were quite a few very good performances in the movie.

I think the movie's entertaining, but the story is far-fetched.

I never thought that trained commercial airline pilots could overshoot an entire city because they were on their laptops.

But I digress.

I don't know who it was, but whoever played the lawyer in the TV movie "Many Happy Returns" gets my vote.
