NY 23 congressional district No active republican running now.

Right wingers felt the Red candidate was too moderate, the Palin, Drug-Rush crowd are Supporting Conservative candidate Hoffman. (by the way he doesn't live in the district).

A very traditonal Republican upstate NY district, however the Republican candidate, who dropped out threw her support to the Democrat Sunday.

It should be interesting...... Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

I think Doug Hoffman will win.

I hope the democrat wins because I want to hear the conservatives on this board claim that the reason the third party candidate lost was because he wasn't conservative enough, even though he was hand-picked by the right of the right righties.

Is there proof there that she was even more than moderate? 'proof in the pudding'?

I think that is a drastic oversimplification. If that was Hoffman's support base he wouldn't be able to win. At the end of the day, Congress has terrible ratings with the American people, so plenty of very intelligent, rational people who voted for Obama last year will be voting for Hoffman today. Don't try to act like it is some crazy, right-wing take over. It is much simpler than that, people just aren't happy with the Democrats not named Obama right now.

People should get used to it because unless Congress changes their approval rating with their constituents a lot of seats could change hands in a year.

The nation as a whole may not like congress, but it doesn't matter because they aren't national candidates.

I think people are finally realizing the power congress actually has, and every incumbent should be scared of losing their position.

I consider myself conservative, but I can say with certainty that if Hoffman loses it will not be because he was not conservative enough.

Why do people insist on vilifying conservatives? All I want is as small of a government as possible while still performing its basic functions with as little taxes as possible within the same framework.

I think it would be interesting to see Hoffman win, it will further divide the Republican party and drive all the moderates from party.

You don't win national elections by heading hard right or left. The moderates and the independents are what win you national elections.

If the Republican party can get neither, it will just ensure Democratic control of the White House for a generation if not longer.

I am sure that no matter what happens, no party will hold the White House for a generation. Everything happens in cycles and eventually the cycle will shift again. The beauty of our system is its own inefficiency. Neither party can manage to do irreparable damage in their time in control typically.

McCain is about as moderate as you can get. How well did that serve him? People who were paying attention (I realize that millions weren't) knew that Obama would not be a moderate. He's a lefty left lefter (that's as close to name calling as I'm willing to get).

I don't know what moderate is really, pretty subjective. She was supported by the RNC, Michael Steele, and other elected Republicans.

The interesting thing is Hoffman didn't choose to be involved in the debate, and seeems to not have much to say about local isssues in the district, but is very conservative on national issues.
