I love it when people want to ignore facts and just act on emotion.

The guy it happened to said no big deal, it was going on all day long on both sides.

But hey IGNORE the folks playing the game and call me a tool. Whatever.

Because your trying to argue something that you obviously know is wrong just because Florida is your team. Of course the kid is going to say its okay what the --- do you think your going to hear from a Freshman in college? "Yeah he really hurt my feelings and I wish they wouldnt have done that people can really get hurt" Than he looks like a complete puss. This is the only thing he is able to say which is give me your worst i'll take it an keep on going. But yet instead of thinking about that you just keep trying to fuel the fire.

Once again where have I said it wasn't wrong. All I am doing is trying to adfd a bit of perspective to a conversation that has gone way over teh line. The cheap shot Tebow took could have easily caused HIM serious harm. I haven't seen you mention that. Where is the outrage over that hit?

Well, by your logic the cheapshot was a clean hit.

The SEC was apparently satisfied with Spikes suspension, so they didn't levy anything additional.

I'm sure the SEC also evaluated the 'cheapshot' on Tebow and determined it was a clean play or they would have levied a punishment or a statement about the hit.

That street goes both ways, right?

I don't know, does it? What is your evaluation of the cheap shot Tebow took? Certainly it was pretty much like the one Clifton took that injured him terribly.

Spikes was wrong and he got punished. I doubt the SEC would have done anything to Spikes if Meyere hadn't. I haven't seen to many leagues step in and suspend players when coaches don't.

The tebow hit and the spikes incident are completely different. I didnt watch the hit I dont care I'm sure it looks exactly like any other late hit. The difference is Tebow still has gear on and the player that hit him wasnt trying to maim him for life he was simply trying to get his point across. If you try to throw your going to get hit. It was obviously a late hit congrats, but Tebow has safety mechanisms protecting him IE his pads and the refs. Spikes under the pile was absolutely KNOWINGLY trying to bypass any safety guards. Sticking his hand THROUGH the facemask. How is that not different to you?

So as long as your guy does it, you are OK with it?

I hear people say "It happens all the time, etc...." Really? Cameras cover every game. Multiple angles, lots of cameras. Why is THIS play being discussed as a rarity of there are replays every week of the same thing? Because there AREN'T.

It does NOT happen all the time. It is NOT OK.

Former players say they did NOT see this type of thing when they played. So stop the "It's OK because everybody does it" excuse.

Half a game was a really, really lame move. It says to me as a fan "We're covering our butts, but we really don't think it's a problem."

I can't believe anyone is trying to justify eye gouging as okay. It's not, and the suspension is a joke. Urban Meyer and the Gators lose alot in the court of public opinion on this one.

I must admit, I've been suprised at the level of arrogance that Gators fans have displayed on this one. Even from one of my favorite posters (CfaninFla), there is still sort of this sense of defiance about the fact that people are upset about what Spikes did. I'd like to think that if Sean Weatherspoon had done this, I'd be willing to see past the Black and Gold and call it for what it is, but who knows - maybe my allegience to the team is too strong? As for Spikes, I have 2 thoughts about it:

1 - I have heard Spikes talk, on several occassions, where he has been critical of opponents for dirty play. That makes this whole incident and actions by him look that much the worse to me. You can't have it both ways, young man.

2 - Again, Florida people can't see it (apparently), but Urban Meyer is coming out of this looking very badly. It isn't just 1 "Yahoo" writer who thinks this guys. It's been all over every national radio and TV show. Florida is taking a big hit image-wise over this move. All Meyer had to do was sit him for 1 game, and people would have let it go. Even if they believed Spikes deserved more than that, 1 game would have appeased the masses enough to move on to the next story. But to "suspend" a guy, yet he's still going to be dressed out in full uniform ready to play later on that same game - that's a joke, and it gives off the perception that Urban Meyer enables this type of behavior from his players.

And yes, he definitely deserved to be suspended.

Well first of all I haven't said it was okay. I said he lost it and was wrong. Reading comprehension around here is really poor.

Second, on the Herd show this morning they talked about Spikes with a football guy from ESPN. He said he thought it should have been an entire game, but this type of stuff goes on ALL THE TIME IN THE PILE. Straight from a guy covering the sport for a living.

Lastly, I just think this entire "maiming for life" BS is as over the top as someone saying there should be nothing done.

I am not quite sure how Mizzou fan there that says the cheap shot is totally different when he ADMITS he didn't even see it. Tebow had relaxed, hte play was 10 yards up hte field away from him. He had his back turned and got DRILLED in the side by a guy who loaded up and hit him. If you think that pads cover every part of a football player you are more myopic than even I thought.

Spikes was wrong, probably should have got a full game. I doubt ANYONE will even remember this in two weeks.

Well on Mike and Mike this morning Mike Golic said this stuff doesn't go on all the time. Said a lot of stuff happens, but eye gouging is not one of them. Said the punishment should have been much nore severe.

But what does Golic know......... he only played the game for a living.
