Post subject: What is status with OL Freeman?? please help!

Greetings! Longtime forum browser, first time poster. Mizzou alum in denver. Can anyone tell me what the story is with that prized Offensive Lineman Freeman who was academically ineligible this Fall? I hope he is still planning on staying with Mizzou. But I haven't seen anything posted or written about him. Even the reliable Columbia Tribune doesn't say what is going on.
Please help!

Thanks

Not sure how he is now but this was written about
him and his condition in August

Last but not least is Chris Freeman. Rumors are abound that the big 6'8'', agile lineman will not play football this year, and maybe not ever again. He allegedly has a heart condition, and obviously no young athlete is going to risk his life over a football career. This has not been confirmed yet by anybody, but if true, it puts a big hole (no pun intended) in the future of Mizzou's offensive line.

Freeman has been compared to Orlando Pace for his size and speed, and was known as the most impressive lineman prospect in the 2009 class. With a talented and deep o-line this year, Freeman was likely going to get the chance to redshirt, develop, and hopefully mature into a beast. At the end of the week, we will know if he is healthy to do that or not.

What you have quoted from August was all speculation, there was no health concerns. It was an academic / test score / NCAA clearinghouse issue. While I do not know if anythign has been officially confirmed, it look like he plans on re-enrolling in January.

It was later reported that the holdup with his playing status was not at all heart/health related, but rather issues with the NCAA Clearinghouse. The heart condition stuff was speculative rumor mill fodder, at best. (That is to say, no one "knows" if there's any truth to that issue, it's just people trying to fill in blanks without any evidence or facts)

Anyone who has followed cases in the past that are held up in the Clearinghouse know that these things can drag on forever - sometimes a kid will be cleared in a week, sometimes it takes months and months and months. FWIW, there hasn't been any new info dropped about Freeman's status with the NCAA since the end of training camp and the start of the season.

This may be a dumb question, but I will ask anyway...
Is a player not allowed on campus until he is cleared, just held out of games, or held out of games AND practice?

I know he was at summer workouts, working on conditioning. Since then Freeman has been silent, which leads me to believe he may already have his answer.

I hope for him (and the Tigers), everything works out and he is cleared to play.

Similar situation to Aldon Smith. If everything gets cleared up, he will have to redshirt this year, but be eligible next year with 4 to play 4.

I believe their scholorship doesn't kick in until they are officially cleared by the clearinghouse. So that means no dorms, no games and no practices for them. As Mubobby said, it happened to Aldon Smith last year, as well as Drew Temple although he left anyway.
