Post subject: Rams Don't Need to Draft QB with First Pick

It's pretty clear the Rams will be drafting in the top 10 this year, but I don't think they need to make their first pick a QB. As the college season wears on, there's mounting evidence this QB class will be deep, but not neccessarily high quality.
IMO, this draft will have some quality defensive players at the top of the draft board that would benefit the Rams more than a QB. Guys like Suh, Mays and Berry would have a more immediate impact on the Rams than a QB.
There will be plenty of quality QB's later in round 1 and round 2 that have the potential to develop into fine NFL QB's and you don't have to spend a top ten pick to get them. I don't see any John Elways or Peyton Mannings in this draft class. Hence, the Rams need to do their homework and have a list of three or four different guys they think they can develop into a starting QB.

Silliness! This team would be on the way to the playoffs if we would have drafted Sanchez. If we pass on another QB in the first round the Rams are DOOMED ... DOOMED I say.
Sorry ... I agree ... just had to add that.

just about every year there is a QB that emerges once the combine comes around. But to say that the QB class lacks talent is foolish. All i have to say is that the rams should definitley not force the pick to be QB but it is a top need.

i'd rather get a young veteran who has been in the league for a while. does anybody remember what new orleans gave up for drew brees? nothing.

Seems like the Rams have followed that philosophy for years now. Again, how many franchise QBs has this team seen over the years?
NFL executives say it year in and year out. You don't pass on a franchise QB when you get the opportunity to get one because you might not get the opportunity again.
Otherwise you hope and pray you find one with later round picks like: Keith Null, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jeff Smoker, Tony Banks, Rickey Jones, T.J. Rubley, Jeff Carlson, Hugh Millen, Rick Johnson, Clete Castper, Kevin Scanlon, Jeff Rutledge, Mark Manges, etc...
How one goes from the QB positon being deep in numbers, but not neccessarily high quality and then suggests drafting one in a later round just doesn't compute.

The Rams need to go BPA with ALL their picks.

I disagree completely. It's pretty clear we need to take a shot on somebody. Our #1 pick will be a top 5 pick and we need the best QB available in the draft. You can't sit around and wait forever unless you want Steven playing QB as well as RB.

Most of us would. But who? See there a reason why guys like Brees are rarely, if ever, available.

I pretty much agree with this. There is no guarantee that we will be picking top 1 - 12 in 2011, and if a new CBA is signed prior to 2011, rookie underclassmen QB's won't have the same incentive to expand the draft because of a probable rookie CAP. I'm not saying to drop BPA, but there will be a good QB in the first 2 rounds of 2010, it's up to our personnel dept. to find us the right guy for our needs. JMO.

Disagree all you want. Look at any team that turned loser into a winner ... a broken team into a solid foundation team. They pick BPA because they are building a foundation with the best players regardless of position. Do you think there is anyone on the RAMS besides RB that needs upgraded? I do.

Something else to consider is that not all QBs fit all systems. For example, a guy like Jason Campbell or Vince Young nor more fit a WCO than Jeff Garcia or Donovan McNabb would fit a Martz style offense.

imo for the people that want Suh so bad, the rams have a lot of money this offseason so they could get a guy with his same production in F/A.
