Everybody Knows that this off season is gonna be big in rebuilding the rams. Billy D. has a HUGE opportunity to turn this thing around Easily. We have a lot of free cap space coming up and its imperative that Billy makes the type of splashes we need. So Today I’m going to Play Gm and See what I can come up with to make this team better.

Here is Tomcat’s plan.

1st. Resign Barron. I know a lot of people are not satisfied with his play but if you are being objective about the subject he is a KEEPER. The guys main Fault was penalties. Well each year his penalties have gone down. That equals improvement every year. Basically all you can ask of a guy is to improve every year and Barron has. PLUS He has great games against monster talent.

2nd. Resign Clifton Ryan. It looks like the light has finally turned on in Cliftons head he is having a good year. Playing excellent against the run, providing good penetration and is actually commanding a double team now. The added bonus is that his pass rush is also getting better.

3rd. Keep Little out of retirement. The guy can still play when healthy he will still benefit this team next year. IF healthy little has 2 years left and should retire as a Career Ram.

4th. On the offensive side I would get rid of Bulger, Cogs, Bell, This will give us even more cap relief and the Middle of the line has been suspect anyway. Setterstorm(when healthy) Greco, Golberg have all shown that they are just as good as cogs and bell so to me they are expendable especially with the cap relief they provide.

Free Agency.
My primary target and break the bank player is Elvis Dumervil. What is the biggest need on the defense. A Number 1 PASS RUSHER. Dumervil provides this in Spades. Imagine what Spags can do with a versatile guy like that. If not him then I would target Shawn Merriman. Provides the same thing but in a bigger body and at the Lb spot.

My Lower tear FA Would be.

1.Barry Coefield DT Still young played for spags understands his system and is a position of need. Put him next to Ryan and our tackles are better.

2.Thomas Davis LB A guy that fits Billy’s Ascending players prereq. And is still young. Plus he is familiar with Flajole you know that players like to follow coaches. IF not Davis then Derrick Johnson I think he just needs a change of scenery and would fit nice with baby animal. Also wouldn’t be against bringing back Chillar if the price was right.

On the offensive side of the ball I would target
1st. I would trade a middle round pick for Troy Smith of the ravens. He would make a good backup and a stopgap while we develop Null or Draft a 2nd or 3rd round qb. He played well before Ryan took over.

Only receiver that excites me is Miles Austin from the cowboys All he does is make plays and that’s the type of receiver we need. The rest have to much baggage except for Vincent Jackson but his price will be to high since we signed Dumervil. Plus we still don’t know what Martin or Gibson have yet. I’m still in a wait and see opinion on the receivers.

Backup running Back. Only one of the Fa’s that I see that might except a backup roll is Jerious Norwood. He would be our Flash to Stevens Bang. Would be a great pickup.

Draft.

The draft should be best player available period. Oh I forgot to mention earlier that I would not be resigning Otogwe because of who I’m targeting in the first round.

My first round pick would be Eric Berry or Taylor Mays. Last year I preferred Mays but Berry is impressing me more because he is a complete cover and slobberknocker safety. Mays is more of the slobberknocker type.

My Second and Third round picks Will be QB and WR which ever one is graded the highest that’s who I take first. To early to know who will declare but the 2nd and 3rd rounds will be talent laiden. After that get linbacker,CB, and OL depth

So my rebuilt defense would consist of.

RDE Dumerville
UDT Coefield
NT Ryans
LDE Little/Long

ROLB Thomas Davis
MLB Baby Animal
SLB Vobora/Draft pick

RCB Bradely Fletcher
LCB Ron Bartell

FS Eric Berry
SS Butler/Dahl I like what dahl has provided. Might start him over butler

I think spags could do wonders with a d like that and take some of the pressure off of shurmur and the offense. What you think Also post what you would do to make the team better.

I like most of what you put there. But, getting a number one receiver is a HUGE need next season. I don't care if Peyton Manning, Drew Brees or Tom Brady came here, they would not be able to move the ball because we have no #1 wideout. I would also keep Cogs, the man has gotten better, and really has cut down quite a bit on the stupid stuff that got people angry with him in the first place. Otherwise, I agree with what you've written.

No way you re-sign Barron. I agree that he has played relatively well, and is not near as bad as many make him out to be. But Jason Smith is the future left tackle of this team. It is proven around the league that you can find right tackles. Move Smith to left tackle, sign or draft a moderately priced right tackle, and spend the money you just saved by not signing Barron on another need position.

I'm afraid Barron know's he is in a contract year, and that's why he has tightened it up. He strikes me as the type that once he gets that big contract, he's gonna shut it down. Maybe I'm wrong, but I wouldn't risk it based on what we know of him.

This might be a bad year to have a high first round draft pick. With the new collective bargaining agreement future high first round draft picks might have better value pricing.

I agree that we need a number one reciever. But he will have to come from the second or 3rd round of the draft.

Laurent Robinson was proving that he is a capable #1. The big question is how he will respond from injury. We havent seen What Gibson or Martin have yet. Thats why i didnt pick a reciever. We may already have our number 1 and dont know it. Both guys teams were lauded by their fans for letting them go. Atlanta also had the same reaction when we got robinson. So for the reciever right now I waiting to see what we actually have before I determine what we really need there

The bye week should get both guys acclimated to the offense and we better see both against the saints.

I don't understand why you would keep Barron but let Incognito go. Both players seem to drive the fans crazy but at least Cogs plays well every week (minus penalties)

Brady WON a SB without a top tier WR. Unless you call Dieon Branch a #1 WR.
As far as TomCats signing Barron - He will get even lazier with a bank account full of money. Draft a RT or DE, let Little walk and use his and Barrons money for a quality DE or RT in FA.

Draft a safety in the first round when we have OJ and Butler and a good back-up in Dahl? I doubt it.

Everything else seemed fine, except forget that back-up QB and get the offensive guard Evans from NO. And get a QB in round 1 instead of a safety (I can't believe anyone would want a safety in round one, considering the ones we have already).

Dumervil isn;t a full-time RDE. HE played that role on a part-time basis in Denver. he looks great as a 3-4 OLB though. I wouldn't support this.

I like the rest including re-signing BArron.

My other big thing is letting Cogs walk and I am completely fine with this. He's too inconsistent and I can't believe we put up with his issues this long.

If we can get our hands on Thomas Howard I like him over Thomas Davis.

When they are this good Yes you draft them in the first round. Berry is as complete as they come. He can play man coverage as a CB. He has the Ball awarness skillz of Ed Reed and can lay the wood like Lott. We already missed on Palamalu because the previous regime thought the same as you. He is the cant miss Athelete that this team sorely needs. If your saying no to him then OBVIOUSLY you havent seen him play.

Plus Butler is a Stop Gap and is way to slow. I like what Dahl brings but I havent looked up his age. Atogwe wants to much money and we can do better then him. His only assest is he can Rip the ball out which he hasnt done much of this year. His tackling and angle pursuit is below average.

Dont care that he played end on a PT basis. The guy go gets the Qb. Hell he could play ROLB for us and still go get the qb in passing situations. All the guy does is prove people wrong. First he couldnt play the end. Proved people wrong. Then he wouldnt be able to transition to the 0lb in a 3-4. Proved people wrong. He is everything this teams needs. Plus his napeloen complex drives him to succeed
