You are forced to buy car insurance only if you have chosen to buy a car. Health insurance is something you will have to buy if you are a human being living in the United States as a legal citizen. No choice.

Wait...I thought liberals didn't like government telling them what to do with their bodies???

Let's pretend you don't have insurance, OK? Then you do something a little stupid like jaywalk across the street at night, and you get run over by a hit and run driver. Somebody calls the cops, and they come to where you're laying unconscious. What should they do with you? What if it's one of your 3 kids laying on the street?

I say let the stupid adult who chooses not to buy health insurance die on the spot. But make it a legal requirement to purchase the insurance for children.

What if they refuse because you have no evidence that you can pay?

What are they in for?

Why would they refuse?

Collections are not the problem of the nursing and doctor staff. Heck, he could even carry a card that said "self-insured".

It's odd that you would cling to a hypothetical exception to criminalize economic choice and personal freedoms.

And even the hypothetical isn;t a real sticky issue.

Hospitals can treat who ever comes in and the collections department has to deal with it.

Keep in mind, we're not talking about indigent people- they would qualify for reduced or free coverage.

We're talking about people who have the financial wherewithal and can reasonably make the decision not to buy "government-approved" coverage. Should they really face jail if they decide not to buy?

Obviously, the thing to do would be the same thing that happens to you if you don't pay a private provider - a civil judgment. A jail sentence is some pretty jackboot nonsense, and it's clear that the defense of that passage is fueled by rabid, blind partisanism, and not any sense of fairness. Just like GOP bootlikcers thought GWB and his minions could do no wrong, the fawning left defends every move of their Beloved Party, knee-jerk and just as nasty as their flipside righties.

Because they don't want to have to pay out of their pockets for deadbeats.

They are companies owned by private individuals. They are being forced to do that today. If they don't treat everyone who comes in, then they can be sued, fined, imprisoned? They don't have a choice.

In fact, they are by default forced to buy self funded insurance for anyone who comes through their door. Why should they be forced to do that?

They take an oath to help people regardless of their coverage....

You know this....but you're hoping nobody here knows this so you can keep defending the indefensible.....

Where in the Constitution does it say medically trained people must take an oath to treat people for free?

Surprised

Where in the constitution does it say it's freaking illegal to not have medical insurance?

The worst part about this is that if a republican proposed this you would be the one screaming the loudest about how it's bs.....

Seriously....who are you trying to fool?

I'm not trying to fool anybody. I think this is the smartest thing the USA has done with health care in the 80 years that health insurance has been in existence.

Jailing people who choose not to have health care is smart?

Sorry....after reading this I think you're a tad off....but I respect your right to your opinion....
