Hi guys, I live in Michigan and am reading speculation through Detroit writers that Placido Polanco may come back to St.L. I think overall the Cards are set (and happy) with Skip at 2nd ....BUT...if they fail on the big two Outfielders in F.A. (Matt/Bay) what about moving Skip back to the Outfield and Polanco into 2nd? They would lose some HR's and Slugging Pct....BUT..their OBP and average would improve probably. What's your take? Of course it would take Placido to be very patient and wait out the Cards pursuit of the two OF's... but since he's Albert's bud, perhaps he's willing to do that.

I like Polanco, but he does not solve the problem at hand, that being an RBI bat behind Albert.

In a perfect world it would be nice to have Polanco back, but we need an RBI bat in the middle of the lineup to help Albert and Luddy. I get the bad feeling that Mo is going to let DeRosa walk right back to the Cubbies and there is not a snowball's chance that we keep Holliday. We're going to be hurting again for offense. I'd be shocked if Bay doesn't stay in Boston, so the choices are pretty slim for free agents, and we used our biggest trade chips last year.

If this were last offseason I would like that idea but we have different needs this year. As much as I like Polanco I'd have to say thanks but no thanks.

No, we have a converted 4th outfielder that bats .300 getting by at 2B. Skip is poor fielding 2 bagger. I see him as a fill in last year because there was no one else. Get Polanco and Skip can become a good utility man off the bench that bats left handed.

It isn't going to happen. With Schu, Ryan and Lugo already set on the team, there is no need for another second baseman. Furthermore, although a good OBP guy, Polanco does not provide the RBI's and power the Cards line-up is in need of to compliment Pujols and Ludwick.

If you insist. Everyone admits he isn't a great 2B even.

RngR: -9
UZR:-7.7
UZR150:-8.5

You can look on several sites to find it.

Its about defense not offense. Offensively Polanco and Skip are a wash although even there Polanco is slightly better.

noone accused him of being a great second baseman. And what are the three stats that you just listed? UZR? Dont get stupid with the response just answer the question. There are too many intangibles when judging defense. Do we know what pitch was thrown on that play? Do we know where the fielder was positioned on that play? Was the called pitch executed? Runner in motion, etc.
