when they beat IL, they were saying that they were reloading not rebuilding. they lost 3 straight, oh were rebuilding. what's there latest excuse? losing to baylor is at home is unacceptable. no excuses, period. pinkel cannot coach, he can recruit which is why he wins some games. losing games like this will hurt recruting.

but the faithful will say its better now than it was 10 to 20 years ago..

It is better. And you don't have to go back that far. I'm mad too. It was embarrassing. The coaching stunk.

Not many good programs are built quickly. It usually takes a long time and requires fan patience. Wins are huge for recruiting but bashing the coaching continuously on this forum isn't much help for recruits to see either.

They screwed up badly today. They will again. They are going to get better. Maybe not as fast as we would like but they will.

Gentlemen, rest your sphincters.

If the coaching is the same through the end of the season, Pinkel should let some of his coaches go. It's a young team, but seeing a lack of growth or regression in his young players is a clear sign that the coaches are not successful in teaching them what they need to learn to win.

The offensive play calling has been horrific. The defensive coaching has scarcely been any better. This falls on Pinkel's subordinates. He talks a lot about how his team handles adversity, at the end of the season he needs to demonstrate to his team that his coaches and himself are equally accountable. Firing assistants does that.

If we're at the same point next year, I'll be all for letting Pinkel go.

But, even as I could see firing/replacing some of Pinkel's subordinates, I doubt we'll be seeing next season being as bad as this season has been.

The Faurot and Devine years were, IMHO, a good program. The Onofrio years were mediocre with great highlights but hardly to be considered a good program. After that is there anything we can grasp that has been considered a good program?

Pete Carroll took over a flailing USC program but a rich tradition and came back far better than good. Stoops took over a 12-22 history and we have to consider OU a better than good program. Mike Gundy took over a weak program with a weak history except for a few good seasons. This is becoming a good program.

Has MIZZOU historically really been a good football program? IMHO no. We now, and in the future, will continue to have moments of greatness mixed with moments of nothingness wrapped around seasons of being in the middle. Are fans actually satisfied with this history and direction?

Perhaps we should consider coaching hires that are building a very good resume and will probably be a "pass through at MIZZOU" until we have a good program that can and will attract a longer term program maintainer and grower. Look at Urban Meyer's history, Nick Saban's History, etc. If we want a program built quicker maybe we need good, hungry, moving on up, program building type coaches, at least IMHO. It seems to me MIZZOU is more likely to hire a good Tier 2 coach for a long haul rather than one building a resume with quick program building and headed for Top Tier schools or the NFL. maybe the school actually has what it is looking for?

IS Alden's big skill more in money raising than anything else related to athletic team development?

Christ.

Just in the last 2 calendar years:

Men's Basketball
2009 Big 12 Champions
Elite Eight

Football
2007, 2008 Big 12 North Champions
2007 Cotton Bowl win (should have been a BCS bowl...not their fault it wasn't)
2008 Alamo Bowl win
Finished ranked #4 in 2007, #18 in 2008

Softball
2009 Big 12 Champions
2009 College World Series

Baseball
Made the NCAA Tournament the last 8 years

Soccer
2009 Big 12 Champions

There's plenty more to list (gymnastics, wrestling) but I'm getting tired of going through all this, so if anyone else wants to fill in the gaps, feel free. Needless to say, the post quoted by Mortie68 is full of FAIL.

While the doom and gloom may be a bit overboard, serving up the cheerios is getting old.
