Nickname for Lars Eller: At first I was leaning towards the Great Dane..now I'm thinking The Viking - it seems to fit his playing style.
Yeah, we're getting ahead of ourselves giving the guy a nickname already, but it's all in good fun.

Great Dane. Although I think it's okay to use both every once in awhile. Mix it up a bit.

Don't really like any nickname in hockey with the word Great in it. The Great One should be left alone to one person, just like the #99.
The Viking!

Heh - for some reason that doesn't sound manly enough. Good play on words though.
The Viking.

I hear ya - Great Eight is Ovechkin's nickname, but he wears number 8. Great Dane could be Eller's nickname, but he's Danish. The Great One doesn't single out a particular number, ethnicity, or team and that's what makes it truly unique; therefore, I think that's an important distinction. Interesting debate though.

I like "The Viking", but the "Great Dane" is nice too. Not sure about the "great" part just yet but he's definitely playing like he wants a permanent spot on this team.
Another factor is that he's like the only Danish player in the NHL so it would be a little more special I think.
Danish Dash.
(Other than Perron, Kariya, and McDonald, he looks like he's the fastest player on the team).
or
Danish Destroyer.
(He looks like a mixture of Perron and Backes to me with all of those hits and quick moves.)

Mikkel Boedker for Phoenix is from Denmark as well.
