Freese will get first shot at third base. DeRosa will be pursued and probably signed to play second base. Skip will move to left field. Smoltz will be resigned to a low salary with mucho incentives and be paired with Franklin as dual closers, thereby saving innings on both. Kyle McClellan will move into the rotation. Some money will be spent on restocking the bench by signing some veterans who while not great will give predictible results for not alot of cash-much like the Dodgers did with Orlando Hudson last winter. Money will be saved to pay Albert next winter. Since there are few prospects left, don't expect mid summer trades like this past summer.

If that happens the Cards will have a 3rd place team. They were bad enough last year on offense. Schumaker can't be an every day left fielder.I hope the fans are not screwed by going cheap.

Skip is our 2B. He's not moving back to the outfield.
The club has to sign a big time bat or our lineup will be brutal next season.

Exactly what I was going to say. A disaster in the making. I hope Mo is thinking differently. For one thing why would Smoltz sign a incentive-laden contract if he had to share his job. How do you meet anything to get bonuses if you are sharing a job, ain't going to happen. Shu is part of the problem, not the answer. This team needs bats that can knock in some runs, especially from left field and third base. Shu is a horrible lead off bat, and hardly and RBI man. If you are going to stay with a catcher who can't hit, a short stop who can't hit, especially RBI and power, than you better have an answer from left and third.

Although he did surprisingly well during the post-season, Colby's bat will really come to life next regular season under the supervision of our new hitting coach.

Yadi can't hit?
Ryan will only get better as a hitter. He won't be an RBI or power man. But we need someone to get on base in front of Albert and he could fit that bill.

Have to agree that Colby will be a much bigger factor next season than he was this season. I also expect Ludwick to step up his production. I'm fine with Freese getting the nod at third. I honestly don't see another third baseman on the market, DeRosa included, who promises much more production. Agree that Schu stays at second as well. Don't be shocked if we start the season with Craig or Mather in left. Also don't be shocked if that is not a bad thing.
Garcia definitely fills a spot in the rotation. McClellan could be the fifth starter, but I doubt it. I'm thinking it is a Dunc project. The 2010 season will depend almost entirely on who we go with as closer. That makes me nervous.

Ryan SS
Rasmus CF
Pujols 1B
Free agent LF
Ludwick RF
Derosa 2B
Freese 3B
Yadi C
Skip should spot start at any OF position or 2B, to keep players healthy.
I think we know what the free agent needs to do. Don't need to say 25 HR 90 RBI. But who will it be. It must be somebody.
Hopefully Holliday.

At this point, after what Mo did last season, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. This is a superior franchise with a Die Hard fan-base. the powers tha be know that...they will put a solid, solid squad out on the field come opening day and it WON'T be with two minor leaguers at 3rd and in left

Freese starts at 3rd. We sign Holliday. We trade for Figgins. Cards win 90-95 games.

Why not make a run at Chone in FA. I really doubt a team that will pay the money to bring him in will be ready to deal him in July.
