I think the cardinals should go out and get crawford. He is an all around better player than Holliday. The oly thing is who hits behind albert.

Offensively, the only thing Crawford does better than Holliday is steal bases. Defensively, Crawford is better, but it's left field, you don't gain much from great defense there.

And Tampa holds an option over Crawford for 2010 and I would be surprised if they don't take it.

Tell that to the Cubs and their fans. Laughing

Crawford will cost you Wainright ( at least ) and get Holliday money after 2010.

Why ?

If Tampa asks Wainwright for one year of Crawford, then I want to know what they're putting in the drinking water in Florida.

It wouldnt cost Waino, but it would be expensive in personnel. I just left Tampa area earlier in the year and not much chance they let him go. They will exercise his option. After 2010, he wont be near what Holliday is going to cost. He is a real fan favorite down there. If he makes it to FA next year, $15M wont be out of the question for him but he wont be a $20M man.

I agree, they won't let him go, so to get him you'd have to blow them away, thus Waino.

He is every bit as good as Holliday, and his speed makes him every bit as valuable, money wise.

I say,do what we can to get Holliday locked up,yet
if we´re not successful in our endeavors, turn LF into
a platoon of possibly Craig,Mather, and Jay.
And give Daryl Jones,Shane Robinson, and Tyler Henley,
another year to develop in the system, with a possible
call-up in September if either of them show they deserve
it.
And besides,with the exception of Jay,either Mather,or
Craig, could be the Plan B replacement for Freese if he
were to stink up the place and not do what´s expected
of him.
And Daniel Descalso is slated to be the regular 2B in
AAA Memphis next season, yet with a terrific showing in
ST,his future at 2B could be accelerated above and
beyond his originally estimated time of arrival.
Yes,it could be much sooner, rather than later.
Then,where´s that leave Skip Schumaker?.
He´d have to play regularly somewhere.
B/c,although he doesn´t hit LHP all that well,he is
a consistent .300 hitter when he does play.
Not exactly a prerequisite of your everyday 4th OF,or bench warmer.
So,that said,I could see him starting every game in LF
against RHP.
And another good thing,Jay/Schumaker could handle the CF duties in as pinch if Colby Rasmus cracks under the
pressure of being an everyday CF.

And excuse me,I forget this thread was pertaining to
acquiring/trading for Carl Crawford were we to strike
out with Holliday.
I say "No way Jose",to Carl Crawford.
Besides,we´ve already got his possible clone at AA in
Daryl Jones.
And Jones is inexpensive, and under team control for at
least a possible decade or so.
And should be ready to strut his stuff on the major
stage in 2011,if not sooner.
And yes,I´m not one of those types who develop a farm
system just to trade them off somewhere at the drop of
a dime.
Learn from Holliday/DeRosa!.
One season, does not a future make!.
Wallace,Mortensen,SPetersen,CPerez,Todd,that´s alot of
firepower sacrificed folks, that has to be,or if at all
possible,be replaced.
If we aren´t successful in signing either Holliday,or
DeRosa,I say we go it with youth from within our own
system.
Like Tampa,Arizona,Texas,Colorado,Kansas City,and a
host of others.
Minnesota,Cincinnati,and Milwaukee included.
And stop crying over spilt milk!.
Get a pair!and learn that we can´t always be contenders right out of the starting gate when you
first have to learn to crawl before you can walk.
This cast of youngsters have all played,at one time
or another with each other in AAA,AA,A,or else the
lower levels of our system.
And I remain positive in thinking that they are very
much so,able and capable of gelling in the big time.
After all,we did make it to the AAA Championship in
2009 did we not?.
And AA Springfield made it to the playoffs as well.
Although my only fear is,that we may never get the
chance to see it ripen into fruition as long as the
the required changes aren´t made at the top of the
food chain first.
That said,Go Cards!,and hope the Cubbies and Brew
Crew help us out along the way!.

AGREE, to some extent

It s nice to hear a guy who likes to play the kids.
Too many on here want to trade for talent we already have lower, with our budget we can t even do that.

Just as RYAN has shown himself after finally given
a little steady playing time, we must be patient with others and they will grow. Remember the cubs were not patient with brock and the yankees with mcgee. I think especially of FREEZE now , sure he s not a speeedster, but he is everything else if given a
little time to shake the nerves.

Too many here , give a guy 50 major league bats then
judge him like they did T GREENE. I see talent
there and in every facet of the game

imo

Crawford would cost you Rasmus.

Jones is likley a 4-5 OF type, has little in common with Crawford.
