Not my civilians - blast away. End this now.

No serious analyst--i.e., nonkoolaid drinkers--believe that this will be anywhere near budget neutral.

Two points:

1. Here's a simple, unrebuttable, unreducible fact Richie: It's not the number of unemployed that's important when it comes time to pay.

GDP GREW in the last quarter - by about 3%. That means - and this is straightforward macroeconomics 101 - that the sum of all domestic personal incomes grew by 3% in the 3Q. This *despite* mounting job losses and underemployment. In short, there was more economic activity (buying and selling) among those who were employed and self-employed.

Now, as the Federal Government funds itself primarily from income taxes, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

2. Costs are NOT created equal. Especially over time.

An oil change costs about $25. An engine re-build about $5000. If you change your oil every 3 months, you're out-of-pocket for your annual budget $100. BUT, you avoid having to payout that $5000. Your costs are higher in the early years, but lower over the life of the car. The concept applies to health care costs too.

You can't have a straight face saying the above. Ever wonder why most of this stuff is setup for 2013?

Government is a terrible provider and a much better mediator.

The right has several GB of strawmen on file to use to defend this position when necessary. Laughing

Once again this has little to do with a legitimate point of who will pay for this new expense should unemployment increase or stay high...

Once again I tell that the payee will remain the same one. The tax payer. Until businesses are motivated, prodded into motivation to start hiring and retaining people nothing will change. No one wants to see the govt restart the old WPA and CCC programs from the Great Depression. However, at least $300-400B could be cut from the Defense budget and used elsewhere.

Why are liberals always eager to cut defense? They can't seem to find any wasted money elsewhere in any program, but defense.

Why do we even bother having a military of any size? After all, it's a waste spending money on defense, when the same money could be used to start up more social programs for the needy... Besides, we will be showing the world we are not a belligerant nation if we gut our military. They will know that we intend them no ill will

</sarcasm off>

Rumblefish,

I believe the 3% is anualized. So for the liberals who are mathematically challenged, that comes out somewhere south of 0.75% for the quarter. It's better than nothing, but not a 3% bump in one quarter.

Who's going to pay for it, okay genius who is paying for the health care we have now and if the plan saves money who is going to get the savings?

We aren't starting at zero.

If the plan saves money, that's a good one. I needed a good laugh this morning.

Who pays now? People generally pay for their own healthcare now. Whether it is directly or indirectly through work.

I do! With some updates, the government stepping forward as employer of last resort would be a great idea, and I hope the administration very seriously considers it.

Although it's less costly for the government to mail unemployment checks than it is to run a jobs program, there are some big advantages of a jobs program. Such as keeping the resume current, and self-respect. Plus there's plenty of work that needs to be done.

How DARE you mention the inconvenient truth that there are hundreds and thousands of public works projects that could use serious attention?!

Remember that bridge collapse in '07? The THOUSANDS of bridges that need repair? The roads with all the potholes? The aging electrical grid?

Nah, there's no need for a jobs program. Wink

But when a radical, socialist, pot smoking, cokehead, usurper, fraudulently becomes president, you bend over backwards to support his every move.

see, two can play that game.

You have zero credibility.

My dog has more intelligent opinions on politics than you do.

Really? So what does Spot have to say on the subject, Dr. Doolittle?
