Rob Rains will supposedly be sports editor and lead baseball writer. First day is supposed to be Dec, 8. I wish them luck. Tough business to try to start from scratch from.

Is BJ Rains his kid? If so, nice nepotism.

Are they going to have sports coverage?
How long before this thread gets yanked?

I thought there was some litigation place from the guy who produces the bi-monthly free paper with the Globe-Democrat name? I figured the online rollout would get delayed due to the pizzin match going on. Maybe I missed the outcome of that.

That site could keep stltoday in check. Like if stltoday starts charging a monthly fee I imagine many would defect there.

Surprising to hear the Globe-Democrat name again.
Also surprising to hear an old newspaper coming back when so many are falling around the country.
Competition in a one newspaper town can only be a good thing in my mind.

I heard an interivew last night where the editor said it will be a "24 hour website", meaning they will break/update news at all hours. I think that's positive.
He also said their hockey writer will be George Solack (sp?)
Back in the day GD has a pretty conservative tilt. I wonder if this will remain the same.

It won't be the Glob (as a lot of us called it) without illogical rants on its editorial page. I wonder how much it would cost to get Pat Buchanan back to his old paper for the occasional editorial in his old style ?

I heard an interview with the guy a couple of weeks ago and I came away thinking he didn't seem like he had much of a strategy. At least he was not able to explain it well. We shall see.

As I understand it, it's only going to be an online paper.
