Bedside tables are making a stand in the bedroom. Their new role: functionality.

"It's time to transform, and it can be done fairly easily," says Vicky Smith, executive vice president and buyer at Rothman Furniture stores. "People like to individualize their bedrooms."

Don't be afraid to get away from the matchy-matchy style. You know the look: the entire bedroom grouping is all the same, same wood, same color, same style.

It's not often you see round bedside tables. But this, and other styles including metal, fluted legs and Zen styling, can lend warmth and whimsy to your bedroom.

This year, vendors are offering consumers functionality. Manufacturers are adding power strips with AC outlets for charging your iPods and cell phones. And some of the newer bedside tables feature felt-lined jewelry drawers.

We found bedside tables to fit any décor.
