The stock footage television stations run when they need a background shot is known as "b-roll."

At Fox Sports, the b-roll be old.

Quick-eyed viewers last night caught a hint that the network is at least one year behind in updating its archive of shots of the nighttime downtown St. Louis skyline. Watch the closing of Wednesday's broadcast (via Deadspin) and look carefully in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, at the neon crawl sign atop LumièrePlace. (Do that, then come on back.)

Obviously, the crew used some old reels out of the b-roll closet. Unless of course the sign read: "Don't let the door hit you as you go, Pujols."

"Joe's St. Louis" appears online Monday through Friday and in print on Saturday. Joe Holleman's "Life Sherpa" column appears on Sunday in Everyday. Follow Holleman on Facebook and Twitter.
