Q: My 87-year-old mother-in-law told us on Thanksgiving that in the late '50s she won a contest for the Post for her mother's crumb cake. She no longer has the recipe. I would love to find it and make it for her. Her name is Mildred Dailey. At the time, she lived in Cahokia. The recipe would have been "Mom's Crumb Cake" or "Crumb Cake."

Q: I grew up in south St. Louis with what seemed like a bakery on almost every corner. I am trying to find the recipe for a crumb cake that used to be sold at Rozenek Bakery and Bretcher's Bakery on South Grand near Arsenal. The base of the crumb cake was like a fluffy German cheesecake covered with crumbs and powdered sugar. They called it a crumb cake, but it was not caky like coffeecake. Maybe someone who worked or works in a German bakery can provide a recipe.

A: "This is a family Depression-era crumb cake that I have been making for years," wrote Janie Kuddes of St. Peters, who contributed the recipe made with granulated sugar. "It is best enjoyed warm. My family is from Ohio, so I don't know if it is the same crumb cake recipe that was made here. We used to have it for breakfast on Sunday."
Sandy Pilarski of Wildwood contributed the recipe calling for brown sugar and spices. She found it in the 1954 edition of "The Betty Furness Westinghouse Cook Book."
Thanks to them and to Virginia Horrell of High Ridge, Mary Ann Meyer of St. Charles and Janet Hubbard, who also contributed recipes. Although they aren't exactly the recipes requested, we hope they come close.
And now, a request for another vintage cake recipe:
• "My father, who is 78 years old and who grew up in Granite City, remembers quite fondly a cake called 'busy day,'" wrote Donald Harmon of Milton, Ga. "He would love for me to find this cake recipe and bake it for him."
