This time of year the thick brush and tree cover don't obstruct one of the great views of the Missouri River. And the humidity is low and the bug count is down.
Where • Chesterfield, on Olive Boulevard west of Ladue Road, 1.3 miles north of Faust County Park.
Surface of trail • Natural, packed dirt.
How long • One-half mile loop.
Difficulty • Moderate. The trail is nearly all uphill or downhill, depending on your route, but it's not rocky.
Can be used for • Walking, nature study, bird watching. No bicycles or horses.
User's notes • The Missouri Department of Conservation touts this area as good for winter hikes. The unobstructed views can reveal more wildlife and better views of the rolling hills. The trail descends about 100 feet from the trailhead to the bottom of the loop. Be careful when the trail is damp; fallen leaves and an earthen trail can be slippery. Add a walking stick to check leafy spots for holes. Continue to watch for poison ivy. While state conservation areas close at 10 p.m., this isn't a safe area for night hikes unless you're familiar with the trail.
Wheelchair accessible • No.
Parking • One small lot at the trailhead.
Dogs • Leashed.
Facilities • No water or restrooms.
