The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Park, the grounds on which the Gateway Arch is situated, is a high and dry alternative while the thawing, muddy local trails return to normal.

Where • Under the Arch, parallel to the riverfront.

Surface • Paved.

How long • About a mile of paved walkway on the Arch grounds; three miles including the perimeter.

Difficulty • Easy.

Users notes • Look for foot traffic to pick up now that the frosty temperatures have eased and folks want a cure for cabin fever. Don't forget the walkway continues south past the Arch around the south lake.

Wheelchair accessible • Yes.

Parking • The lot at the north end on Washington Avenue has a fee. Park on the top level to get to the paths.

Dogs • Leashed.

More info • National Park Service, 314-655-1700 or www.nps.gov/jeff
