For pre-Valentine's Day flowers, visit the Missouri Botanical Garden's annual Orchid Show, then take a stroll on the garden's main path for a picturesque walk.


Where • 4344 Shaw Boulevard.

How long • 1.5 miles on the main loop. Side trips and crosswalks can add or reduce the length.

User's note • The Orchid Show runs through March 25. For a healthy jaunt around the grounds, take a brisk walk around the loop, then return to look at the exhibits. The garden keeps many varieties of plants healthy year round. The indoor exhibits are worth the side trips. Informal walking groups often take advantage of the 7 a.m. opening times on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Admission • $8 adults, $4 for St. Louis and St. Louis County residents; $3 for St. Louis and St. Louis County residents 65 and over; children 12 and under and members, free. Extra fee for the orchid show.
