One St. Louisan is in the running to win up to $14,500 for her iPhone application promoting healthy behavior in children.

First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" campaign and the U.S. Department of Agriculture have teamed up for the "Apps for Healthy Kids" contest that awards cash prizes to software developers who use their products to encourage children -- especially tweens, ages 9 to 14 -- directly or through their parents to make more nutritious food choices and be physically active.

Michelle Bain is one of 94 contestants and one of 64 who submitted a game. Her "Fitropolis Stackers" game app has about 515 votes, and she's in second place behind a San Diego developer with more than 640 votes. If Bain gains the most votes out of all game submissions by voting's end on August 14, she wins $4,500.

A panel of USDA judges will determine a grand prize winner (who gets $10,000), a runner-up (who gets $4,500) and an honorable mention (who gets $1,000) in both the game and tool submissions using a five-pronged set of criteria.

Here's the description of Bain's game, from the contest website:

Join Thumbs Up Johnnie TM and the Super Centeam and learn about Fat, Sugars, and Calories in the foods you love! Each level challenges you to pick the healthy choice as foods fall from the sky. Play as one of 6 characters and join the fun!

The FItropolis Stackers game is based upon the book, The Adventures of Thumbs Up Johnnie- Adventures Through Fitropolis. The book features aspects of  eating healthy around the food pyramid, water intake and exercise. A free copy of the book is available at www.thumbsupjohnnie.com (click on the school house icon)

To vote, you have to register with your name and e-mail address. Winners will be honored at a White House event. You can vote for one submission only once, but you can vote for as many submissions as you'd like.
