TULLYTOWN, Pa. -- A woman has been cited with animal cruelty after police say she locked her dog in the trunk of her car while she shopped at a store in suburban Philadelphia.

Twenty-two-year-old Emilia Szymborska says the 1-year-old cockapoo named Lalia was running all over the parking lot of a Wal-Mart in Tullytown on Sunday.

The Bucks County Courier Times reports she says she locked the dog in the trunk for about 15 minutes while she went shopping.

She says she wanted to teach the dog a lesson.

A store employee called police, who popped the trunk and let the dog out; the dog wasn't harmed.

Szymborska, of New York City, is cited with animal cruelty, a summary offense that carries a $300 fine.
