LOOK AT ME: Our town's Chris Gatewood may just be "quite possibly the most popular 16-year-old in the history of the entire universe," according to "the man your man could smell like," Old Spice guy Isaiah Mustafa.
Chris, a junior at Crossroads College Prep, is the enviable winner of the Old Spice "Super Fan," competition, which means that he was headed to Dallas this afternoon to attend the Super Bowl courtesy of Procter & Gamble, which owns Old Spice.
Chris, who runs his own graphic and web design business, Gatewood Designs, won the contest partly with his parody of the Old Spice "I'm on a horse" commercial. The company said it would choose the super fan "based on his or her social media support" and would be scouring the web to find that person.
Along with the Dallas trip and the Super Bowl tickets, Chris has the exclusive rights until Monday to the next Old Spice ad featuring Mustafa. He can do what he wants with the commercial before it is released at large. The brand is not doing any advertising during the Super Bowl.
Mustafa returned to the advertising world late last month with a 74-second video that explained he was back to tout the brand again. Last year's ad with Mustafa got 24 million views on YouTube, which made it the most frequently viewed spot in 2010.
Chris tweeted that today was the most exciting day of his live. He said in an email that he took his mother with him to the Super Bowl. He says on his website that he and a friend have their own drumming business and that he enjoys running track and is in charge of the site design and video graphics for CurrentNews, his school's newspaper.
