WORKING FOR CHILDREN: Larry Joe Carril of Marine has been installed as the 99th Potentate of the Ainad Shriners of Southern Illinois.
Carril is a regional and international award-winning Drum Major, who served in that position with the Ainad Shriners Drum and Bugle Corps for 30 years beginning in 1976. He was presented with emeritus status in the corps in 2002 but still serves as Drum Major when called upon.
In his new post, Carril, 60, is the chief executive of the largest group of Shriners in Illinois. He represents 4700 Ainad Shriners across the southern-most 40 counties of the state. It is the 10th largest of 193 Shriners groups around the world.
Carril was appointed in 2004 to serve in the Shriners' Outer Guard position by Past Potentate Kenneth Lake of New Athens. He was raised a Master Mason at East Lodge #504 in Fairview Heights in 1972, and currently belongs to Marine Lodge #355. He joined the Scottish Rite Masonic Bodies Valley of Southern Illinois in 1972.
He is currently an aide to the Imperial Captain of the Guard, Jeffery L. Sowder in Tampa. A native of Fairmont City, Ill., Carril belongs to several clubs and units throughout the 40 counties of Ainad territory. He is semi-retired as a sales consultant with Gateway Volvo in Collinsville.
He and his wife, Maryann, have three sons: Kenneth, Brad and Justin. All of their sons are Shriners. Justin and Brad are active members of the Ainad Drum and Bugle Corps.
