A little more than a month ago, Jason Fiehler of Infuz digital creative agency, presented "The State of Twitter: St. Louis." The report followed the trends of the nearly 200,000 St. Louisans who actively use Twitter.

Infuz now has graciously made the entire report available by download.

The report was the result of research by Fiehler, founder of STL Tweets, and his team at Infuz.

Among the reports highlights:

*The average user in St. Louis has 257 followers and tweets once a day.

*The most influential Tweeter in St. Louis is Chris Reimer, the chief marketing officer at Scorch marketing. Reimer has more than 40,000 followers. Rounding out the top four are conservative alternative radio host Dana Loesch and baseball bloggers Matthew Leach and the Post-Dispatch's own Derrick Goold.

* St. Louisans like to use Twitter for news. STLtoday is their top news source, by far, with 8,218 links sent from January-June, mentions in 18,000-plus tweets and with more than 4,000 followers.

*STLtoday.com and interact.stltoday.com were the 8th and 9th most popular links sent by St. Louis tweeps from Jan.-June 2010. STLtoday was the only news organization in the Top 10.

The survey did have one demographic surprise for Fiehler and his team: "We found that there is a very large and vocal community of African-Americans using Twitter in St. Louis," he said.

He pointed to the ranking of Jaguar Carter as the most mentioned Twitter user as evidence as to how some people are using Twitter as an open instant messenger.

By the way, Justin Bieber is the second most mentioned among St. Louis Twitter users.

A tip of the glass to beer expert and colleague Evan Benn for contributing to this.
